Acerca de esta escucha

"I was standing there naked when my dead husband walked into my bathroom...."

Lillie St. Claire is a Talent, one of the rare few who can permanently dispatch the spirits of the dead that walk the earth. Her skills are in demand in a haunted country, where a plague of ghosts is becoming a civic nuisance.

Those skills bring her into conflict with frightened citizens who view Talents as near-demons. Her husband has come to see her as a Freak; so when Nathan dies after a car crash, she is relieved to be free of his increasingly vicious presence. Lillie expects to be haunted by Nathan’s ghost, but not to become Suspect #1 for her husband’s murder and reanimation.

But what’s most surprising of all is the growing attraction between her and psi-crime detective John Thresher. He thinks that Lillie killed Nathan—and Nathan must agree, because his zombie is seeking revenge. Now she and Thresher must work together to solve her husband’s murder—before his corpse kills her…

I loved the characters! I actually thought the narrator was a female, I didn't realize that the narrator was a male until I started this review. So, hats off to the narrator also! I will be waiting anxiously for the next installment.

I can't wait for the next book!

I couldn't even finish , I got to the 10th chapter and just couldn't finish just extremely long winded and seemed they had a word limit they had to fill I understand details but every little detail just makes for a long boring story

Really Long Winded

I really enjoyed the storyline and this could be the start of a great series. Having said that, I have to admit that I was eager for it to end. It was just too wordy. It seemed that the author used every obscure adjective available that could or would describe any given thing or situation. I found myself becoming irritated at sentences that were twice as long as they needed to be. I'm no english major, but I do know that sometimes less is better. I was also confused by the use of both American and British slang. It was difficult to decide where the story took place. The characters are well thought out and there is a lot of depth to them. Lots of room to develop backstories and it leaves you wanting to know what happens next. Watson Heintz does a wonderful job on the narration. She is truly talented. Looking forward to a second book. I may go for a print version if it has as many extra words as this one. You can't skim over an audiobook.

Great storyline.....but

Surprisingly fun
This was the first book I read of from this author and I enjoyed it very much. First I was a bit confused about the world setting but that got cleared up pretty quickly. Like most of the urban fantasy novels the heroin Lillie is tough and has loads of trouble coming after her. The difference from other books is that even though the heroin has an extraordinary strong necromancer-like talent, she feels like an “ordinary” person. She isn’t too tough, sexy, and an expert in fighting with swords, but tries her best to ride the tides of trouble that comes her way. I could sympathize with that. Also, at least for the first book the problems are not “Apocalyptic,” as of yet and the problems are based on lust and greed the basic human kind. However, the bigger mystery lies in why there are more paranormal activities happening in the world, thus there is room for more stories! I would also like to know what would happen between Lillie and the federal detective Thresher. I think it is a great start for a new series and there certainly is a great potential.
Oh, one thing that annoyed and confused me was how Lillie switched how she called detective Thresher/Johnny at the beginning, until I got used to it.

Surprizingly fun

GREAT STORY

It's really sad to find a book that you really enjoy. That would eventually make a phenomenal series, only to find out that the author is no longer writing for one reason or another. It saddens my heart to know that there will never be a second book to the series and that Lillie will never get to be with Johnny. The potential with this first book had for a great series is remarkable I hope in the future that somebody buys the rights to write the second book and is as well written as Bernita Harris was. I will simply have to imagine how the story ends.

Wish there could have been a second one?

It started off well. Lily St. Clair, with her Talent, was well developed and had some depth. The plot held my attention for while. But as the story progressed, Lily become more whiney and strident with her dialog. The narrator's voice was annoying during her tirades. Long winded and unnecessary words. Lily started to come off as immature. By Chaptet 31, I guessed what was going to happen next. I'm debating if I want to finish.

Warning about this book. Sounds like it should be the beginning of a series. It's been out for a while and no sign of book 2. If you read/listen to it and get invested enough to want Book 2, it's not available. At least I couldn't find it on Amazon or Audible.

Started off good but...
