The backstory needs to move along....

I have listened to all 8 books of the series in a row and overall I have enjoyed them. The narrator took a bit of getting used to but as the series has progressed he has grown on me. I am getting a little tired of the back stories of the series. Cath Cryer needs to get her promotion or decide to leave the force and get moved out of Blake's world entirely. Good cop (says the author) or not I can't stand her character and feel more like she needs to get taken down a peg or two instead of being promoted. Blake's DSI needs to get over the "Harry is always trying to steal the spotlight" hurt feelings. It's tiresome and makes him sound petulant. The big bad mobster story line is getting tiresome too. Where is it going?

I love that the author so loves animals and I really like the rest of the characters. I also for the most part enjoy each mystery and procedural. The best part is that the author makes me want to look stuff up to see where the locations are or learn more about the historical sites. To me, that means he's doing something great. I had never heard of The Wirrals before listening to these books.

If you've gotten this far in the series you are probably a fan and going to get the book regardless of the review. I too will get the next in the series when it comes out!
