So honest, sometimes painful, but full of hope. I don’t want to be that white racist.

Crying

I’ve never read anything that describes crying so well in our community. I admired how gut wrenching and honest Sanchez is. It must have been scary to write. I especially loved the last paragraph - “all I ever wanted was to feel alive…” It’s a must read if you know anyone who cry’s a lot and you don’t know why.

The raw truth

This book tells so many truths from the cultural norms we are born into as women of color and what we must endure, to the experience in a psychiatric ward and ECT. This book will make you cry and laugh with the author’s quick wit and use of Spanglish . Excellent book . A must read .

The best book I’ve ever read

As a minority, this is the best book I’ve ever listened to and so necessary.

Honest, raw, reflective & hilarious

This story really grabbed me. It is incredibly raw and real. She is so honest you feel like you know her. Her reflections on race as a person of color are so clear and unflinching. Another important voice for white people to read and I would guess validating for people of color.
As a therapist I feel she gives the best description of depression that I’ve ever read. Surprising that I’m a book describing such immense depression she also manages to be absolutely hilarious. Highly recommend

I cried, laughed and connected

It was so hard to stop listening to her deep and honest revelations. I love how real and grounded she is. Erika made me feel connected to her and myself. I admired her before, but now I want to be a chingona like her.

Loved the story not the audio…

I wish I would have read the book instead of the audio. It didn’t sound like the reader wrote the book, sounded quite choppy. Also, the descriptive words seemed forced and not a part of the authors day to day lexicon. Loved the themes and relatability.
