Great start to a series with an excellent narrator

This is the first book by Andrea Smith I've read/listened to. It flashes back to a couple different points in the timeline. I'm assuming that this first book focuses on the past and others will focus on the present/future. Several times my heart squeezed with pain for Neely. What a hard life she's living in her teens. Seth and his family are wonderful, helping Neely through the hardships. Neely is a talented, strong, smart young woman. Seth is a sweet, caring young man.

After looking the series up, I wonder why so many books? But My interest is peaked and I look forward to the next book to see where the story is going.

Rachelle Williams is an excellent narrator. I LOVE her voice and accent. She has great talent. Her performance was flawless.

Crushed

Listen to a story of first love, as teenage Neely navigates the trials of family drama, crushes, expectations, and friendship. When her family moves from Tennessee to California, the young artist finds a friend in her neighbor, Seth. Him and his family become the only ones she can depend on when things start to take a turn for the worse at home. Just as the two start a fledgling relationship, her world is torn apart and her mother and her move back to Tennessee. But despite the distance, their connection remains, but Neely has her hands full dealing with her mother on her own. Ultimately, Neely faces a tough decision on what will be best for her and her mother in spite of her feelings. The narration is great displaying all the teenage angst and emotion you'd expect in someone exploring love for the first time and dealing with family problems. But make sure you are really paying attention because the story bounces back and forth in time and if you are not listening carefully you can get a little confused. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next with Seth and Neely.

Too cute

Oh wow. This book was really enjoyable. The narration was done well. I enjoyed the story.

Young love...

This is a story about Neely and Seth and their developing love story. Along the way they have several issues standing in their way. The main one is Neely's crazy alcoholic mother. Neely's mother and father get divorced and Neely moves back to TN with her mother where her life is completely changed. Her mother is also very codependent on Neely and doesn't act much like a mother. The other issue is just Neely's naivety. She sometimes seems more like 11 or 12 than 15. She freaks out and basically dumps Seth with a dear John letter. I am not sure where this storyline will go in the next book. This seemed to be just the build up and history of the main characters. I am rooting for Neely and Seth but I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of tears and angst to follow. The narrator does a southern accent through the whole story so if you don't like that be forewarned.. All and all its a pretty good lead up book but nothing really good happened between Seth and Neely in this book. Can's wait to real the next one. Audio Obsession Review.

GOOD START!

Good start to a new series! Although this book was short, it didn't lack entertainment. The narration was good. The author did a good job with the character builds and plot. I look forward to reading the next book in this series! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Sweet story

What a sweet story so far ! I love the relationship between Neely and Seth. I Watching Neely find her self as she grows, brings me back to when I was her age. This story captured me and eager am for more.

Heart Crushed

I'm generally not a fan of jumping back and forth in time. It was hard to keep track of the time period on occasion but on the whole, I liked the first installment of this series.

It's heartbreaking in so many ways - an unstable, alcoholic mother, a philandering father, and a young girl's coming of age that she wants to experience walking side-by-side with the boy next door. Then reality sets in as her family situation blows up and Neely is separated from Seth. Simply heartbreaking.

I did increase my rating with my second time through. It really stuck with me these past couple of years and is worthy of an increase.

I enjoyed the narrator, Rachelle Williams, and her southern twang.

Well written with interesting and likeable characters that kept me listening. This is a sharply drawn, painfully, and heartfelt candid coming-of-age story about the life and struggles of a 14 year old girl named Neely and her best friend Seth, that would have you begging for the next audiobook, once you're done listening to Crushed.


Rachelle Williams makes of this, an enjoyable listening experience.
