Good story

Kind of slow but a satisfyingly good listen. Kind of an old-fashioned novel that is worth sticking with it.

Best book I've listened to in a long time. Loved all the main characters. Hated for it to end.

What a surprise!

What a surprise! I was unfamiliar with the author, but the blurb referred to Grisham and the Southern Literary Tradition, so I thought I’d give it a try! The book is not just a great story, it’s also very well written with passages I want to linger over, AND it’s free from the obligatory political propaganda most contemporary books are laden with. This is one of my favorites reads this year. I’ll definitely look for more Tom Franklin books, and I plan to get this one in hard copy so I can savor the style.

great book. my first Franklin book was Carolina moon set. didn't think it was possible to do something as good. this guy is knocking it out of the park.

Great Mystery/Crime but so much more

I loved everything about this book. A great story with twists and turns that totally made sense. I absolutely loved the reader's voice

Great Mystery in Deep South

I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't hardly put it down. Hearing this on Audible, I was grateful for the narrator's southern accent as well as the accent of Southern black folk. I hope you get to read this book! Cudos to the author and his choice of the narrator.

very enjoyable

Great character development, I wanted to be Larry's friend. Tied up a little neatly, but I'm okay with that!

This narration makes the story 10x better!

I originally started reading this story myself and was eight chapters in when I decided to follow along with the narration. I was loving the story but was struggling to read it on my own due to it's long chapters and the Authors intricate details written throughout. From the second I started the narration, I was enthralled! Narrator Kevin Kenerly brought Tom Franklin's story to life and I became more and more enthralled in the story the longer I listened and followed along. I highly recommend listening to the narration as you read this book, because it will make it that much better! Tom Franklin did a stunning job writing this novel and his attention to detail is beyond impressive. If you enjoy reading mystery novels then you will absolutely love this book!

How it all finally came together

It was took a good while at the beginning to make any sense. I’m glad I ultimately stick with it. At the end I really liked it.
