The only possible thing that could make Morgan's world even more difficult happened. The Japanese fleet off the coast of California was wiped out. An even that Morgan and friends and family only knew about because of the radio broadcasts from the Radio Free Redoubt. So far removed from them it barely warranted notice. That is until the Chinese retaliated by launching a nuclear counter-strike against Mac Dill Air Force base. This, did warrant their attention and had the potential to profoundly impact their lives.

As bad as the fear of nuclear fallout was, it wasn't the only threat still haunting northern Lake county. With proof the Russians had pathfinder units on the ground, at a minimum, in the state and discovery of Cuban forces cooperating with them, something had to be done. After encountering armored units and realizing they were ill equipped to deal with the threat, the old man called for help. The call was answered, but would require a near impossible trip by truck to Eglin Air Force base. America was certainly on the ropes, but she wasn't down yet.

All Morgan wants to do is protect his family and friends. To restore a normal sense of life. To see to it Mel and his girls are safe and protected. He doesn't want to get involved in these military actions. He's more focused on trying to restore power to town. But his desires are, to use a military term, overtaken by circumstances, and, once again, Morgan and his friends are compelled to get involved. And this time, it will cost them.

Least Favorite book

Very slow, not a lot of story advancement, not a lot of action. Unfortunately not worth the wait. Hopefully book 10 makes up for it.

best post apocalyptic series

A.American delivers another piece to this great series. I read several reviews before starting this one and I will admit it is a tiny bit slow for one of his stories but it still had enough action to keep you hooked and the tension is definitely building up for the next book in the series. Thank you A. American and Duke Fontaine.

Never disappointed

AAmerican pays such attention to detail. And Duke Fontaine is definitely the storyteller of the apocalypse! He voices the characters so amazingly! The story always has the feeling of everyday people surviving in this emp world. And adds real life everyday scenarios. Births, deaths, weddings and all that comes. You get attached to the characters and story!

Best yet.

A. American never disappoints. The characters continue to develop and the narration by Fontaine is great. This book series is my favorite so far, and I look forward anxiously to book 10.

Best series of it's kind.

Although this may be one if the weaker & shorter if all the 9 books it's still a good read/listen. Honestly I just hate that it's coming to an end. I've tried countless other similar books but none are as good as these. The stories are great, the characters are interesting & likeable and the performance by Duke Fontaine pushes it right over the top. If you have started the series you have to get this one and if you're just browsing and came across this, go to book 1 Going Home and make the purchase. You will be happy you did. - Now please deliver another awesome series like this, my credits are ready and waiting. I can't take anymore boring, monotone stories that I'm listening to now.

this series continues to get better and better.

this is an amazing series with all the parts necessary to make you feel real empathy for the characters. Duke does and OUTSTANDING job voicing the characters to create very independent personalities for each.

Enjoyable

I wasn't sure if this was going to be good compared to what I get from reading myself. But it was very enjoyable! I was able to go where the writer intended for me to go. I indeed felt as though I was on or in their community!

I loved every book I have read every single one I don't want it to end.
