Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

WOW! Keeps getting better and better
The story continues and I love the world that P.N. has created. I was unsure as the story went on if the characters were going to be all right but I think they are going to be ok but changed from the experience.

Never a dull page. No one does noir like Johnny Heller. I highly recommend this story and the whole series.

I'm so glad this series exsist.
Any additional comments?
I think that this series has greatly improved the genre that is vampire urban fantasy. With upstart authors or wanna be authors pumping out vampire novel trash like House of Night, Chicago land vampires, and Vampire Academy it is enough for you to give up completely on the genre all together. Finally there is the Vampire Files to sneak in and show us that there is hope for the genre. Romance takes a passenger if not back seat to the plot which is refreshing . It won't be in the top three urban fantasy books you've ever read but should be in the top ten.

love this series!
read these in middle school, and have been a fan of the series ever since. the one part I can't listen to anymore is Jack with Hog Bristow, "buckwheats". have to skip that part. hear it once and you'll never need to hear it again! promise.
