Peter Parker's life has hit a peaceful stretch. No evildoers have tried to flatten him in weeks, his marriage to Mary Jane is stronger than ever, and he's enjoying his job as a high-school science teacher. Life is good. Naturally, that doesn't last.

When Peter learns that his old enemy, the Rhino, is on a rampage in Times Square, he suits up as Spider-Man to stop the destructive villain in his tracks. But he's unexpectedly foiled in his attempts by the Black Cat, a former ally and old flame. The Cat informs Peter that the Rhino is just a distraction - the real threat comes from a group of Ancients, members of the same race as the being called Morlun, who Spidey defeated in battle years earlier. The Ancients are now looking to exact revenge - and hope to steal Spider-Man's life force in the process.

To defeat such powerful beings, Spider-Man is going to need all the help he can get, especially from the Black Cat. But what will Mary Jane Parker have to say about that? Peter isn't sure which is worse - the Ancients trying to drain his life force or the wrath of a jealous wife....

This is better than expected. But I was hoping it to be little more darker, as indicated by the title: The Darkest Hours.

But the story and formation of characters and in-depth details of them really kept me on board all the way till the end.

Fantastic

I am a big fan of Jim Butcher, and a big fan of the older Spider-man that Hollywood keeps depriving us of. This book was great, though throughout you can absolutely tell that Jim was still in a Dresden Files mindset when he was writing it. Not that that's a bad thing- just noticeable. Overall would recommend, even if it is pretty short.

Pretty good Spider-man novel

Jim Butcher gives these comic characters a welcome breath of life. If you enjoy Spiderman, the Marvel Universe, or just other of Butcher's works, give this a listen! I never thought I'd care for Rhino and Black Cat, but this read kept me interested.

A fun listen and great character building

Jack Meloche makes for a perfect Peter Parker and does very well with the other characters. Coupled with Jim Butcher's storytelling, it makes for a perfect match in this audiobook. Easy 10 out of 10.

A Perfect Match

It had all the classic Spider-Man tropes you know and love, but a lot of extras that felt like a deeper dive into the character while still feeling like you were reading from the pages of a comic book. The narrator nailed the character's voice in both tone and inflection. I would recommend to any Spider-Man fan.

Great Spider-Man story.

Good Listen

Great Spider-man story. Jim Butcher writes Peter Parker almost as Harry Dresden as Spider-man sometimes which is probably only noticeable to someone who has read most of The Dresden Files. That's my only complaint. The story is good and I loved the exploration of Peter's morals and ideas of what makes good or bad or evil, etc.

Peter Parker or Harry Dresden?

This took me back to my Childhood . Spiderman was my favorite superhero as a kid. The story was all that I remembered...Loved it.

Great story...

Way better than I thought it would be. I hope Mr. Butcher does one involving Venom.

It took a while for the story to stop feeling like a comic book, but it made a good story. The narrator was good, too.

a comic book story to start
