Resumen del Editor

The murder of Ed Burdick is the true story of the great unsolved mystery of turn-of-the-century Buffalo and a terrible wrong that was never put right.

1903, Buffalo, New York. Ed Burdick, a wealthy manufacturer known for his kindness and generosity, and his wife Alice had a life few could imagine. The couple had three lovely daughters, a beautiful home, and they were fixtures in the elite Elmwood Avenue set. Despite rumors of trouble in the Burdick marriage, few believed it until Ed ordered his wife out of their home and filed for divorce. The whispers about their separation abruptly ended when Ed Burdick was found murdered in his den while his family slept upstairs. The police found a mosaic of conflicting clues at the crime scene. The investigation uncovered shocking information about the Buffalo tycoon's life, and no shortage of suspects with a motive for murder.

A richly detailed account of a grisly crime.

The story itself is obviously the result of meticulous research and fact gathering that is to be strongly commended. The author does a fantastic job of laying out the facts of the crime and leaves no stone unturned. Brava.

On the other hand, the narrator’s tonal inflections and cadence are rather irritating. Because I wanted to listen to the story I stuck with it though I came close stopping before the 3rd chapter was through. Her enunciation is great and her speaking voice when NOT narrating are quite pleasant. Its a mystery to me why she had to change her tonal cadence and pitch but I’m sure she has her reasons.

The story is definitely worth reading if you can but if, like me, that’s not doable just grit it out until you get used to it. It’s worth it.

Fascinating and haunting case.

I thoroughly enjoyed this history of a Gilded Age murder that remains unsolved to this day. Compellingly presented and well researched with a cast of characters worthy of a major miniseries, I couldn’t wait to hear each succeeding chapter. I highly recommend this story and look forward to enthusiastically urging friends and family to experience it. Haunting and fascinating.
