Audiobook four of the Ciaphas Cain series.
Listen to it because:
It's a tale of Cain alone (well, except for Jurgen, but he hardly counts), surrounded by enemies and desperate for a good cup of tanna tea....
The story:
Once again, reluctant hero Commissar Cain is catapulted into glory in the fourth instalment of this tremendously popular series. Escaping from a disastrous space battle, the commissar and his malodorous sidekick Jurgen crash-land behind enemy lines. Even the sly Cain can't avoid a straight fight this time, as the only way out is to round up what few troops they can find and fight their way back to safety. Unfortunately, hundreds of thousands of barbaric alien orks stand in their way.

After the first 3 books had fallen into bit of a predictable rhythm, I was pleasantly surprised by how this one shakes it up. This is greatly helped by the fresh cast of supporting characters, whose characterization is all so good that I actually ended up liking some of them MORE than those from the 597th.
One note: This story follows a younger Cain years before his assignment to the 597th. From what I understand, young Cain was first introduced in a short story anthology, which you should probably read first if I’m not wrong in my assumption.
Overall, Death or Glory tells a gripping and entertaining story, with just the right proportion of valuable meaning. I recommend it to both longtime 40k fans and people who don’t even know what a bolter is (though the latter group might want to do a tiny bit of research first just so the terminology makes sense). That goes for a lot of Black Library books that I’ve read so far, actually - they publish a lot of REALLY good books!
Oh, and as per usual, the voicework is phenomenal. There can be no other voice for Cain, Jurgen, or Amberly. If the stories you’ve been alongside them for haven’t made you feel a connection to these characters yet, Stephen Perring and Penelope Rawlins’ characterful performances certainly will. And Richard Reed, star of The Infinite and the Divine, makes a few short appearances!
Easily the best Cain book so far!
