Every summer, superstar surgeon Whitney Aldritch crashes weddings with her best friend. The first one was an accident, though after a decade of dropping in uninvited, they’re masters of their craft. They keep the rules simple, and they never go to bed alone.
Then there’s Henry Hazlette, best man and the best one-night stand of Whit’s summer. She never imagined she’d see him again but now he’s one of her new surgical residents—and completely off-limits. Whitney has staked her reputation on leading the hospital’s new ethics initiative. While Henry is under her supervision, they have to keep it professional. But it doesn’t help that she can’t turn around without running face-first into his offensively broad chest or rubbing up against him in crammed elevators.
Also not helping: the way he smiles at her like he can hear her every not-safe-for-work thought. All they have to do is survive this residency—and the accidental tarot card readings that hit too close to home, a few uninvited houseguests, and the hospital’s hyperactive rumor mill—but only if they’re prepared to bend some rules as the feelings go from just for tonight to get it out of our systems to mine.

One fateful wedding complete with a wacky astrology/tarot reading, a memorable one night stand and a major twist of fate that throws them back together will test everything they thought they knew about their status quo. Throw in best friend and sister shenanigans, a whole cast of hospital personnel and this book had me laughing, doing double takes, and swooning. (Seriously, Henry is a complete DOLL!)
I knew when Stella Hunter was announced as the female narrator that this audio was already off to a good start. Oscar Reyes is a new narrator to me so this is my first experience with him and he did not disappoint.
Whitney is a strong, confident woman and one of the best surgeons in her field, but she has some emotional squishy spots that she doesn’t like showing and Stella blended these facets of Whit’s character together brilliantly with her performance.
Oscar leaned into Henry’s always up for a challenge, I can fix anything, golden retriever vibes and showed how determined Henry was to convince Whitney to give them a chance. I especially loved how Oscar handled the interactions between Henry and his fellow cohorts.
This book had appearances by some of my favorite Kate Canterbary characters so I’m a little precious when it comes to those voices, but Stella and Oscar were perfect!
I adored this book and can't wait for more stories to come from the other characters! I always feel at home in Kate Canterbary's stories because her characters feel so real to me. They're every bit as stubborn and headstrong as real people, but in the end they're just like us; trying to find some meaning or sense of connection and maybe a little happiness in the daily minutiae of life.
Another winner from Kate!

And then there is Whitney Aldritch and Meri Mercer, they have wedding crashing down to an art. The big secret, the best man is hot, very hot, exceedingly hot and Whitney Aldritch can attest to that, but first she has to get over the fact her “best-man” from the Tahoe wedding just showed up at Mass General and he cohort are about to start their training with guess who? Yup Dr. Whitney Aldritch is his attending physician.
The audio is just as good as the book! In fact narrators Oscar Reyes and Stella Hunter do an amazing job bring Dr. Henry Hazlette and Dr. Whitney Aldritch to life. The funny parts seemed to funnier, baseball game had me laughing and well I can’t use the next scene because I would give a lot away…let’s just say these two narrators did a wonderful job.
As always Kate Canterbary brings her A game with Change of Heart, her narrators did a wonderful job and if you are an audio listener, I say grab this one.
The Best Wedding Ever

This starts off a fun wedding-crashing girl trip. I was here for all the cupcakes and delectable after-dinner treats. Henry is so persistent, which is one of my fave qualities in an MMC. Let him fall first, hard, and be unrelenting with his love. Tick, tick, and tickety tick! Henry is all of these things. Whit is torn between her strong ethics in the workplace and her need for all things Henry.
There’s a great push and pull with no drama, for drama’s sake. We have cameos from characters from other books in Kate’s worlds, and I loved all the banter. I live for banter. Henry’s cohort is hilarious too.
Stella and Oscar smashed the narration on this one. I love both narrators, and they played these characters so well. Their comedic timing was on point, and the laughs, whispers, growls, and dirty talk were all amazing. This audiobook was a delight to the ears!
A fun ONS turned workplace forbidden romance.

But then it turns out that Henry is one of her new residents, that she’ll be his boss and someone she will see everyday for the next two months while he’s doing his transplantation rotation.
Henry has not been able to forget a minute of his time with Whitney… Being on her rotation has him hanging on by a thread, determined not to cross the line for the next 8 weeks, so he trips and stumbles his way through the transplantation rotation. He’s just so impressed by how competent and highly skilled she is, and he notices that she feels absolutely everything in a such a deep and serious way. He notices everything about her, and knows he loves her and will never recover from it. He knows that it’s something that he might have to wait for…
Whitney while professionally is highly skilled and competent, relationships have proved highly complicated for her. Henry always gives her the space she needs… She might need some convincing, because she’s not sure what they had together will be the same, except it turns out it might actually be better than they remember!
What an absolute treat the audiobook dropped before the actual book!!
Change of Heart was absolutely divine!

I liked the love story of Henry & Whit, but I thought the male narrator was totally wrong. Henry was described as a deep voiced, tall, big, bear of a man - Oscar Reyes narrates in a very soft, precise voice; the precise enunciation of each “a” almost drove me insane. No way could I make Reyes’ voice be Henry in my mind; I struggled to keep listening. Stella Hunter did an okay job interpreting Whit. I just thought this listen would have been far, far better with Jason Clarke, Sebastian York, Zachary Webber, or Ryan Hudson as the male narrator.
Love the Surgical Group!
