Resumen del Editor

Lucy's getting very annoyed that her husband Bill and his friend Evan have been working seemingly nonstop on their potentially prize-winning pumpkin catapult. But when the day of the big contest arrives, Evan is nowhere to be found - until a catapulted pumpkin busts open the trunk of the Dodge. Amid the pumpkin gore is a very deceased Evan. Bill is on the hook for the Halloween homicide, so Lucy knows she's got some serious sleuthing to do. With each new lead pointing her in a different direction, Lucy sees that time is quickly running out. If she wants to spook the real killer, she'll have to step into an old ghost story....

Narrator can ruin a book

No offense to Lisa’s voice because it isn’t that but the previous narrator sounds so much more believable as Lucy

Great Mystery

I have read every book in this series and have enjoyed them all. Leslie Meier has done a great job of letting her characters grow and develop over time (the first book was written in 1991). I love Lucy, the supporting characters and the town of Tinker's Cove. The mystery in this story is well developed and well paced. I truly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next in the series.

Different Narrator

The story is as good as usual with twists and turns until Lucy can follow her instincts to find the killer. However the narrator Lisa Larsen has a great voice and pacing. But after 22+ books in this series I couldn’t concentrate on the story because it wasn’t Lucy, or Bill, or any characters. I kept having to rewind and even admit to skipping chapters.

New narrator was TERRIBLE

The usual narrator is so much better. I hope the regular one comes back or I’ll have to read the paperback

Sounded fun but ended up being a heavy bummer

When I first read the preview I thought this would be a lot of fun. But what was supposed to be a fun and happy read, turned out to be stilted, shallow and had heavy issues like abuse and rape tossed in. The battered women and rape thing was completely unnecessary and unrelated to the story! The author made police out to be brutal and villainous! And then the end was wrapped up in the most flippant cheesy way I've ever seen a book end.
The narrator seems to only be able to do a Latino/Russian accent and used it for English and French persons.
It could have been such a fun read but it was a serious disappointment.
Sorry – – but I felt like I needed to write this to warn other people to not waste their time.

Obvious killer, no mystery, and heavy with author’s politics

Last Leslie Meier book for me. Murder doesn’t occur until late in the book; murderer is obvious. Lucy is a nag, prude and generally unlikeable. If you’re pro life and/or pro cop, don’t read this book. A cozy mystery is not the place for politics.

Lazy plotting and too much political proselytizing

I’ve been making my way through the Lucy Stone books over the last several weeks. While I have come to enjoy many of the characters and have found previous mysteries truly engaging and occasionally challenging to unravel, this one feels both dialed in and too preachy. I’ve already purchased the next few books ,but I am now hesitant to continue with the rest of the series. If the author is going to continue to lambaste readers with political views instead of providing solid ,engaging mysteries that respect both the characters many readers have come to enjoy - as well as the readers themselves - then it’s not worth my time and it was a waste of money.

At a time when I choose my escape fiction to get away from the polarizing voices in the world around me,I’m truly disappointed to find the characters in this previously engaging series becoming just a strident and divisive as those who vent their bile in harangues on social media. I avoid that nonsense actively, and didn’t expect to find it cropping up in this series. Truly a shame.
