From the New York Times bestselling author James Lee Burke comes another brilliant Dave Robicheaux novel—now available in ebook—featuring the Louisiana detective in a race to solve a murder before more blood is shed.

The Fontenot family has lived as sharecroppers on Bertrand land for as long as anyone can remember. So why are they now being forced from their homes? And what does the murder of Della Landry—the girlfriend of New Orleans fixer Sonny Boy Marsallus—have to do with it?

Marsallus’s secrets seem tied to those of the Fontenots. But can Detective Dave Robicheaux make sense of it all before more bodies drop? In James Lee Burke’s intense and powerful crime novel, Robicheaux digs deep into the bad blood and dirty secrets of Louisiana’s past—while confronting a ragtag alliance of local mobsters and a hired assassin.

In the suspenseful series that continues to be both a critical and popular success, Burning Angel will keep you glued to the pages until the breathtaking finale.©1995 James Lee Burke. All rights reserved; (P)1995 Simon and Schuster Inc. All rights reserved.

i got this book because of Will Patton's narrating an excellent of book by James Lee Burke. I feel cheated of Will not reading the whole book. The best book read by the best Narrator. Hay out there why didn't Will Patton read the whole book? The writer writes to books, the Narrator brings the book to life.

Abridged 5 star book TOO SHORT

Please, James Lee Burke/Audoble/Simon Shuster, please do whatever it takes so that Will Patton will narrate ALL of the Dave Robecheaux books in this series. Mark Hammer (the other narrator who reads books in this series) is not suited for the job, but was allowed narrated so many books in this series. To me, there is no better person in this planet than Will Patton as Dave and Clete. He wins a Grammy from me for his reading of this series and I know I’m not the only one with this opinion and desire for him to be commissioned by James Lee Burke to delete Mark Hammer’s versions and let Will Patton do a re-reading and narrate rest of the books in this series.

Mr. Burke, please hear my plea as a mere millennial Fan of your work!!!!

I just got these to add to my audio books. I had read them already ,of course, as I had read a all of the wonderful James Lee Burke books. To have Will Patton read to me is just the best.

still a good combo

Again, after reading Tin Roof Blowdown, which is 5-star, I went back to read these earlier JLB / Robichaux audiobooks.

Up to this one, they are all abridged, and the editor did a lousy job.

many holes in story line, motives, etc.

Editor chose to leave all the bayou descriptives in and cut all the story line.

I would still rate it average; if you like JLB and Robichaux, this was one of the better stories.....

Reader, Will Patton, fabulous as usual!!!

Overall slight thumbs up.

Ok, but Abridged it leaves holes

James Lee Burke tells a great story with his words and Will Patton brings it to life with his narration.

Burke & Patton - It Just Doesn't Get Any Better

Another story of the South as told by a Southerner.

It's my own fault. I didn't notice that this is the abridged version of this book. I don't know who ever thought it was a good idea to rip out most of a story but you are cheating yourself ( and being cheated by Audible ) if you waste a credit on this.

Take Note: This Is Abridged

Why abridged for audio? Evidently this is Will Patton's first reading of this series. His later readings are far, far better. I don't know if the story was incomplete because it was abridged or if that was the way it was written, Do not judge the series if you are unlucky enough for this to be your first book; listen to one of the later Patton readings in which he truly has developed his character's voices.
