I love fantasy books, it's the only genre I listen to. I'm happy to have a book with a black MC based in the real-ish world. The author and narrator did a beautiful job. Being named Ashton, I felt extra special with the books dedication.

I didn’t want it to end!
I was so caught up! This took me back to my HBCU and it fully fed my fantasy craving. The characters were tangible, made me miss my elders. It’s everything we didn’t know we needed in a fantasy book. Bravo!

Where is book 2!!!!!
It started off slow….but in chapter 10……shit got real!!! I was praying Malik found his mother….but as the book went on…I’m glad he didn’t. I do think the Professor is his father!!!! Great job!!!!

Absolutely amazing
I love the magical world and this is the first book that I've read that represents P.o.C in a positive light. Where the black character is just a sacrifice or just a side character! 10 out of 10 can't wait for the next book

Amazing story!
First off I preordered a physical copy of this book for my son. YA right up his alley…. Lots of cussing. So nope not for him. But what little I read before had me getting the audiobook so I could read while at work and see this world that Williams wrote and omg what a ride! This book is so real and painted this magnificent picture in my mind. I look forward to seeing how this characters grow and 10/10 would read anything Williams writes in the future!
