As the last female blood mage, many would kill to claim the power surging through her veins.
For years Leila has hidden.
Who she is.
Where she came from.
What she can do.
But the long-lost Princess refuses to run forever. Those she loves lied to her. Betrayed her for a greater good. Even in her absence, she's being used as a pawn in political power plays.
Now, Leila is determined to discover why.
As luck would have it, she has an unlikely ally on her side. Ronan, the audacious heir of a rival clan, feels the need to protect the beautiful, hidden royal any way he can. Despite the strife of their opposing lineages, theirs is a dance of passion and peril, where every stolen glance and forbidden touch sends ripples through their world.
Yet even his loyalty is tested when Leila’s fated calling is exposed.
Thrust into a world she no longer remembers, Leila must fight to discover who she can trust as malicious threats close in from all sides. In a world where the past casts long shadows, Leila will discover that the threads of fate can be rewoven … but not without a cost.

After hearing the story again, I enjoyed it and am excited for the next book but Leola did get on my nerves on some parts. The secret that still isn’t fully revealed dragged a bit. How everyone didn’t know who she was except Roan was kind a ridiculous. I’m going to predict Roan is actually a good guy and her family isn’t. I’m hoping by the end of the trilogy Leila has more of backbone and stops getting pushed around by everyone in her life.
Overall the story was entertaining.
Interesting start to a new series

This was an intriguing, entertaining, fast paced enemies to lovers read! Karina Espinosa did a fantastic job weaving together a story full of deception, banter, and magic. Leila doesn’t know who to believe, with good reason, and changes her tune many times in this book, but I love how at her core, she just wants to help people. Ronan, yummmm, I loved him from the very beginning and though some of his actions I yelled at him, he is just a delicious character who really is the only one that wants to protect Leila. The twists really had me on the edge of my seat and there were a lot of characters I wanted to punch. But I am totally here for the sizzling energy between Leila and Ronan! I was on the edge of my seat and I need the next book like yesterday. Wonderful narration performance
Great series starter, great performance

Great book

The narration was awful. Each sentence was stunted with weird pauses between each word, as if a period fell after every word in the book. It was so distracting that it was hard to ignore.
But the story was just awful. It had so much promise, but became so unbelievable that it was laughable.
*Spoilers below*
We're supposed to believe that the FMC just doesn't spark even one flick of remembrance in her brother or childhood friend? Not once? Not even through their weird and random torture they put her through? All for...jealousy? The explanation between the warring kingdom and clan is barely explained and yet we are supposed to buy this complete hatred amongst the two. Plus, the fixation the FMC had on her best friend (a mermaid we really don't get to know beyond surface level), borders on obsessive, so much so that I was waiting for a lesbian storyline to emerge. THAT would have made this at least interesting!
I DNFd this book about 3/4 of the way through. I found I just didn't care about any character to finish to learn about their fate.
And now I am treading very carefully before listening to another novel with this narrator because if that pausing is truly her style, then I won't be giving her books another listen.
Bad all the way around
