It was an average day . . . until a gorgeous demon waltzed into my coffee shop and asked me to be his mate.
I jokingly agreed, but he was serious.
And now I'm mated to him. Permanently.
He drinks lust to survive, so that makes me his immortal meal.
If that wasn't bad enough, he's just gotten out of prison. Because I accidentally bound myself to him, I automatically take responsibility for keeping him on the right side of the law.
So, now I'm living with a rich, dangerously-attractive demon, while a dragon shifter watches us to make sure our marriage is legit, and that my husband doesn't fall back into his sketchy ways . . . because if he does, we're both going back to prison.

🦸🏻♂️ The Heroine: Tatum
Tatum is a twenty‑four‑year‑old baker, candy maker, and the creative force behind a trio of cozy coffee‑and‑sweets shops she runs with her two best friends. Every recipe is hers, every flavor a piece of her heart. Life is predictable in the best way… until a demon strolls into her shop and casually asks her to be his mate.
In this world—set centuries after supernaturals revealed themselves to humanity—peace exists, but only because everyone stays in their own lanes. Tatum knows the supernatural world exists, but she’s never been pulled into its politics or dangers. So when a demon claims her as his mate and a dragon shifter lurks outside, she’s understandably overwhelmed. And yet, the dragon shifter—part of supernatural law enforcement—feels safer than the demon who just upended her life.
🦸🏼♀️ The Hero: Rafael
Rafael is a demon who feeds on lust to fuel his magic, and he works for the human government hunting rogue vampires. A year ago, a kill went wrong, and he ended up imprisoned by the supernatural authorities. His early release hinges on one thing: his mate is nearby.
The supernatural world treats mating as sacred, binding, and irreversible. So when Rafael approaches Tatum and she sarcastically quips, “Sure, I’ll be your mate after knowing you for two minutes,” the bond snaps into place. What she meant as a joke becomes magically—and permanently—real.
🔥 Plot Dynamics
Tatum quickly learns that mating a demon comes with consequences: she’s now becoming a demon herself, and mates cannot be separated for a full year without descending into madness. She’s furious, trapped, and absolutely not ready to build a life with a stranger, no matter how unfairly attractive he is.
Rafael, on the other hand, sees their bond as destiny. He’s determined to win her heart, even as she resists both the emotional and physical demands of their connection. Feeding his magic requires her lust, and she’s not thrilled about being his magical battery.
As Tatum meets Rafael’s brothers—Zander and Sebastian—she’s pulled deeper into demon culture, customs, and family dynamics. The worldbuilding shines here, especially during the mating ceremony, which blends danger, tradition, and unexpected tenderness.
🌟 Strengths
• Fresh paranormal worldbuilding. The supernatural–human history, the political tensions, and the demon customs feel original and thoughtfully constructed.
• A compelling emotional mismatch. Tatum sees their mating as a mistake; Rafael sees it as the beginning of forever. Watching them navigate that disconnect is engaging and often sweet.
• Tatum’s backbone is fantastic. Her decision to give up her trust fund to pursue culinary school—knowing her family would disapprove—adds depth and makes her instantly more admirable.
• The demon community is fascinating. Their rituals, values, and family bonds add richness to the story.
💔 Limitations
• The late‑book conflict between Tatum and Rafael feels frustrating, especially the sudden loss of trust. It doesn’t ruin the story, but it does create a bump in the emotional pacing.
🎙 Narration
The dual POV narration by Kit Swann and Jack Calihan is a standout feature.
• Kit Swann brings warmth, relatability, and a perfect edge of sarcasm to Tatum.
• Jack Calihan’s gravelly tone suits Rafael beautifully—intense without sounding performative.
Both narrators feel natural and immersive, making the audiobook an easy listen.
💭 Final Thoughts
This audiobook blends originality, humor, tension, and supernatural intrigue into a story that feels both fun and emotionally grounded. Tatum and Rafael’s dynamic is messy in the best way—full of friction, longing, and reluctant vulnerability. While the late‑story conflict stumbles a bit, the worldbuilding, character chemistry, and excellent narration more than make up for it.
Overall, it’s a fresh and engaging paranormal romance that delivers charm, heat, and heart. A great pick for listeners who enjoy reluctant mates, rich supernatural lore, and heroines who refuse to be swept away without a fight.

I liked the concept the author weaved in with their feeding and if they couldn't get lust they needed to get chocolate hahaha. And the ladies in this series own the candy store was a fantastic touch. The back and forth with the brothers and buying out all the candy was fun and how Tate could show her caring side with making him sweets was adorable. I liked her besties too and was so happy they got their own HEA in the other books in this series (yes I have already binge listened to them and am already on the next series in the same world haha).
The plot wasn't as strong as the other 2 and the audio had some flubs for me so that is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Still a good start and got me intrigued enough to listen to the other 2 (which were 5 stars by the way!). I liked the world with the demons and dragons (listening to the dragon book 1 and boy am I already hooked haha). Thought the chemistry was good and all the side characters really add to this great world. I thought the length was good, was worried it would be too rushed but the author did a good job making it feel longer (in a good way) with all the relationship building and details and everything.
I will say Tater Tot was hilarious but not a great sexy name in the bedroom/sexy scenes hahaha. The end of this book was rough and sets the scene well for book 2, I felt so bad for everyone but totally understood why. BTW Rafe's notes to her were so adorable. If you liked this one you are going to really enjoy the next 2, they felt more cohesive and the push and pull between the characters were great (and even more humor!!).
Great start to this trilogy!
