Power and Terror
Want to know why Leigh Brackett was asked to draft the Empire Strikes Back? Let the Black Amazon of Mars answer the question. Leigh Brackett is one of the most descriptive and powerful writers I've ever encountered. She's a pro, there's no better word to describe her. Even though it's sword and planet, the sheer drama of her writing, the skill, the breadth of imagination pull it off completely. There's a mix of science fantasy, sword and sorcery and eldritch, alien horror that's evocative and haunting. I'm starting to understand the thesis held in PulpRev circles that JRPGs of the '90s were one of the true inheritors of the original pulp adventure era. BAoM is an OG-Final Fantasy story from start to finish with a little Robert E. Howard and a little of the Holger Danske story thrown in for good measure.
