Resumen del Editor

Shane Ryan returns to Nashua and the childhood memories that drove him to join the Marines. After a prolonged legal battle with his aunt and uncle, Shane has possession of the family home where his parents disappeared over 20 years ago. The house, a monstrous castle filled with ghosts and secrets, is more alive than its inhabitants.

When his aunt and uncle come to town, then vanish, Shane's life takes a turn for the worse. Detective Marie Lafontaine immediately labels Shane as the prime suspect. And in a race against time, Shane desperately searches for clues about his parents.

But there's something lurking beyond the walls and beneath the surface. Something sinister that has haunted him ever since he saw its face in the pond behind the house. And it isn't happy that Shane is back.

It isn't happy at all.

A haunting to die for.

This was a really fun one. I loved the belt lost in the house.

There was music, secret rooms. The detective and the marine guy had excellent and interesting chemistry.

If you like ethereal hauntings- without too much specific sense to it all, then this one is for you. it's not cozy, it's not cute and easy. It's a proper haunting.

Would listen to again.

Scary but different.

If you could sum up Berkley Street in three words, what would they be?

unusual haunting story

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. How the ghosts seem to be afraid of each other, that always seemed to make me wonder why.

Have you listened to any of Thom Bowers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. He is a pretty good narrator, nice accents and age differences.

Who was the most memorable character of Berkley Street and why?

Carl. I just love him, how he calls Shane "my friend" and looks out for him.

Any additional comments?

The other books after this fall short, they aren't as scary and this one seemed to leave something left unsaid at the end. Yet the next ones in the series jump to different locations. I hope they return to Berkley Street.

Amazing!

I highly recommend the entire series. The main characters come across as very real. They have baggage, they're believable, and it makes you cheer for them that much more. It's not always easy to get attached to a character in what boils down to a ghost story, but this series nails it on the head. I'm always left wanting more. Each story in the series builds off the last and takes you a great journey. Sometimes, as with life, the journey is painful. I highly recommend the series. Once you start into it, you won't want to put the series down. if you're anything like me, you'll be desperately watching for an announcement that the next book is being released. I hope to never hear the end of Shane Ryan!

Good and creepy

Story: Simple and suspenseful. Loads of creepy ghostie parts. This horror relies on atmosphere and old-fashioned spookiness rather than gore and bad language. I love this kind of horror! It's also well-written with interesting characters. I really liked the bonus chapters to learn more about Carl. He was my favorite ghost. The characters aren't heavily developed but I got enough for the most part.

Narrator: I got used to his voice in another book, but he's not the best with women's voices. However, I do understand that it's super difficult for a guy to do a woman's voice and not have her sound husky and breathy. Luckily there isn't a lot of femalkfemalke dialogue. My other poor point is that his Italian sounds Egyptian or even almost Indian half the time and his German sounded French at times.

Still, a good spooky read.

Ripley is the master of creep!!!

Wow. Just when I think I have his style figured out, he changes it. Great book. Creepy as heck. Had to keep stopping it to "catch my breath".

Very Different, I Liked It

Starts out very different and time line goes backward and forward. Sounds confusing, but it is easy to follow. The mystery takes a long time to get to what's going to happen. About the time I had it figured out I was wrong. I recommend this audiobook.

Well drawn characters and quick moving tale

Something is wrong with the old Andersen house. Really, really, wrong. Shane Ryan grew up there. Now he has returned to his childhood home, 20 years after the disappearance of his parents, to find out exactly what happened all those years ago. He might not like what he finds. Many secrets and ghosts from the past will need to be brought to light in order to unravel the mystery.

If you are looking for a slow burn haunted house tale, then Berkley Street Is not your huckleberry. There is zero pussyfooting around with this one. The spirits are restless and they are in your face from the beginning. I dug that about this one. The characters, both alive and spirit, were well drawn and the story moves quickly with several genuinely creepy moments.

The audio for BS was very well done. I wasn’t too sure about the narrator at first, but once I got used to the cadence and tone, it fit the story and I ended up liking it very much. Listening versus reading is sometimes a difficult thing, but no matter the format of this one, I believe that I would have enjoyed it equally. Well done. 4 Stars

Something Lurks

Shane grew up in a large house. When he was a child he came face to face with something lurking in the pond in the back of his home. He never forgot what he saw, neither did he tell His parents. His parents had left while he was in the Marine Core. His Aunt and Uncle took possesion of the house. He didn't care and did challenge them when he retired. Now he has learned they vanished and hadn't been heard from since. Soon after he left the Core, his Aunt and Uncle also vanished. The property now fell to him. Reluctantly he returned home to check the situation out. He moved in, but kept his eyes peeled for he had not forgotten the many strange occurrences as he grew up. He wondered if what he had seen in the pond as a child had anything to do with the disappearance? You be the judge.
