Acerca de esta escucha

It was the year that Joe DiMaggio set his 56-game hitting streak, that Ted Williams batted .406, that the Dodgers and the Yankees battled each other in a classic World Series, and that America went to war. In this look at what he calls "the best baseball season ever", Robert Creamer skillfully intertwines all these epochal baseball happenings with an informal history of a pivotal period in American life, as well as with his own memories of what it was like to be 18 and a baseball fan when a looming war and the game he loved vied for his attention. For all who love baseball, Baseball in '41 makes it clear why the game is still the purest representation of the American Dream.©1991 Robert W. "This is a baseball book, but whether Creamer intended it or not, it's much, much more." (Sports Illustrated)

loving these old baseball books. Anything from the deadball Era to the 80s I'm listening to. Great narration

Another great baseball book.

Mr. Creamer hit a solid single in sharing highlights of the 1941 season. The narration was okay, but a little too automatic, like a 6-4-3 double play to end an 11-0 , 5-hit blowout. All-in-all, a B-to-B+production, and well worth the time of a baseball history geek, like me! :-)

Solid Single!

I wish someone would write a book about every baseball season. Each one is unique. This book was a joy to listen to. I highly recommend.

What a great book!

I loved the stories in this book, and really enjoyed the narrator's pace and voice. However, the formatting is not great, "Chapter 1" contains the introduction, and Chapters 1-4. it makes it a pain to get back to a specific chapter.

I really enjoyed the stories about the Yankees' dynasty. I'm no NYY fan, but the way the story is written and recorded made for such a pleasure to listen to.

Great performance, great stories, bad formatting

Though it pains me that New York teams get so much national attention, I am cutting Robert Craemer some slack since he presents this as a semi-memoir, depicting the 1941 season in the context of his own life experiences and the greater context of WW2. He includes delightful details about the owners, coaches and players of many teams. He has a breezy style that carries the reader/listener along. My knowledge of the War and baseball of that era was passed down to me vividly from my Dad who told me about Hank Greenberg’s service and enlisted himself when he reached military age. There are some complaints abut the narration in other reviews. I disagree. I thought it was terrific.

Fun Book— Well Written and Narrated

Been touched on already in other reviews, but the reader of a nice baseball book, needs to know how to pronounce accurately the names of the players

Mispronunciations issues

Robert Creamer is the essential old school baseball historian. He perfectly illustrates baseball's greatest season.

This story provides a perspective of the role baseball played in the lives young men as the world plunged into a war that devided a nation, consumed a continent, and devoured 60(sixty) million souls . In a year that changed the lives of heroes and common folk alike, baseball was the glue that made it America’s game.

The best of Baseball
