Bill is still grieving over his wife's death when an investigation of a horrific mutilation brings him into a relationship with Medical Examiner Jess Carter. Singer's narration becomes infused with the excitement of new love and increases its emotional levels when Jess is murdered and Bill is set up as the killer. Singer manages to keep two intertwined crimes straight and deliver forensics details lucidly while he gives voice to a steady stream of the hero's inner monologues and convincingly switches roles from hard-boiled cops to angry victims and even a caring transvestite.

In 1978, 56-year-old Leoma Patterson left a bar in Clinton, Tennessee, and was never seen again. Six months later, a female skeleton was found on a wooded lakeshore in a neighboring county. The bones were consistent with those of the missing woman, and one of Patterson's daughters recognized a ring found at the death scene as her mother's. The bones were buried, and six years later, a relative of Patterson's - one of the men she was last seen alive with - confessed to killing her. Case closed.

Narration Issues
Would you listen to Flesh and Bone again? Why?
No. I would rather read it. The narrator spoke in monotones.
What did you like best about this story?
The plot was intriguing, well woven, and the ending was superb.
What didn’t you like about Erik Singer’s performance?
The narrator sounded like he had a terminal case of ennui.

Another Great book by Bass!
Well crafted mystery & beautifully narrated! It pulls you in & you can’t listen fast enough to find out what will happen next! Jefferson Bass paints a picture so distinctly with his words that you forget you aren’t actually there with the characters. It’s a must read!

Great Story
This is my second experience with a Jefferson Bass novel. The story gives enough forensic data to learn about the body farm without being dry. The characters are well rounded and believable. I was drawn quickly into the story and stayed there until the end.

too much music between chapters.

excellent story line, but....
The story is great, love all the books from Dr. Bill Bass. Two related to the Body Farm, and two other fictions co-written by Bass and Jefferson. All the stories, whether the biography of the author or the fictional dectective Dr. Brockton are really intriging, and interesting, captured my total attention. However, unlike the other narrators from the other books, this particular narrator sounded too young for the charactor, Dr. Bill Brockton's charactor is about 58 years old. The narrator sounded no more than 30 years old, with an heavy southern accent, this made the charactor less convincing than the other books.

great read
Very good story with a few twist and turns. Just the right length. Not too much extra that didn't add any thing to the story as some books can. Enjoyed it very much.

Wonderful - suspenceful
We loved this story. We listened to it on our way to and from Miami. Even the kids loved it.
The reader was wonderful with his inflections and other voices.
