When viewed through an economic lens, poverty can be defined as an absence of resources. Since 1995, Framework's basic premise is that the middle-class understandings of those who work with children and adults in poverty are often ill-suited for connecting with and helping people build up resources and rise out of poverty. Now, 18 years and 1.5 million copies later, Framework: A Cognitive Approach has been revised, updated and expanded.

The 5th edition features an enhanced chapter on instruction and achievement; greater emphasis on the thinking, community, and learning patterns involved in breaking out of poverty; plentiful citations, new case studies, and data: more details findings about interventions, resources, and causes of poverty, and a review of the outlook for people in poverty and those who work with them. This audiobook is read by the author, Ruby K. Payne, Ph.D.

Very informative!

This helped me better understand the students I'm teaching. I do wish I had bought a hard copy because it would be an excellent resource, but I learned a lot listening.

Eye Opening!

As an educator with ten years experience, I will need to listen to this book at least 9 more times to fully digest all of the golden nuggets of information given. This book really helps connect the dots as to why some children are labeled with behavior problems. This is a book that needs to be on every Teacher's bookshelf.

Physical book might have helped.

I am not a teacher. My goal for 2018 is to learn about homelessness. So I tried this book. Chapter 1 is very difficult to listen to. I didn't have the framework to listen. There are so many references to charts & lists that the audio book falls short. Just get the book. Author clearly has 1st hand experience on the issues. Book is probably very helpful to those actively working with those in poverty.

pretty much useless as an audio book because it references so many charts. author's voice is unpleasant

excellent practical guide

as a teacher, I really appreciate it the the practicals when addressing students from the property class. Even though I grew up in poverty myself, I have forgotten so many important resources that students need today in my classroom

As the author says in the appendix, this book gives language to my experience of poverty, middle class, and wealth. Having good language is key. And this language is not only informative, but it also respects all people in all experiences. The value of this book, therefore, will reach deep and wide in my life.

this information should be taught to teachers and students from headstart forward. it would be invaluable to them.
