Another fantastic work from Devon C Ford.

There was quite a bit to like about this audio book. Narration was top notch. The story had me remembering how I grew up in the 1980's, so the emotional connection was there. Overall pacing was great as well. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of apocalyptic fiction.

Amazing Series for any Reader...

I’m on book 4 in the series - I wanted to be sure the series would hold up before encouraging others to listen/read.

MAN DOES IT HOLD UP! Awesome series!

I love series like Galaxy’s Edge, Star Wars (pre Disney more than post), Ember War, Rise, After It Happened, etc. I love strong male characters and strong female characters - but I REALLY love men to be chivalrous because they respect and appreciate women. This girl won’t ever snub her nose at a man doing things he was genetically equipped to do better than me.

Who will be glad they took a chance on this? Anyone who loves to care about the plight of the characters and feel anticipation and adrenaline during military/battle footage.

It’s extra helpful if a reader likes Post-Apocalyptic stories w/ zombies.

It’s pretty gory and graphic in the zombie bits.

Loved it from the beginning

I loved this book when I read. The performance was amazing. Highly recommend on that alone.

Devon C. Ford has an amazing grasp of how to write a character that makes you care about them. I admit this quality and a stellar style keeps me reading. The stories creep up on you with DCF. One second you are wandering alone and scared, the next, you are facing a new challenge that makes you realize just how deeply you care about the character. DCF draws you in. You become one of the cast. Excellent reading/listening experience. Highly recommended for story and characters. One of the best zombie apocalypse books I have read lately.

Is this a zombie book or just child abuse ?

Don't buy this book if you have any childhood trauma or have been abused by your parents. I thought I was buying a zombie book but 2 hours in and its paragraph after paragraph of horrible parents starving and beating children.

Looking for books 2, 3 & 4

I enjoy TEOTWAWKI books & zombie thrillers.
I have listened to many of this author's other series as well and was excited to see this release.
Off to a great start, just not sure why when 4 books are available in print the entire series isn't presented but I will wait and buy them one at a time :)

Great story, relate able characters.

Well thought out story line containing characters you sincerely root for. Cannot wait for the next book.

Hmmmm

So this has potential a lot of repeating of information. Thinking for a 6 hour book about 45 minutes is repeating same stuff that was in prior chapter. Like doing a recap of each chapter when a new chapter starts. Kind of annoying and honestly makes it feel like a rip off. I think if the book hadn't been divided up into several short books and those weren't a whole lot of repetition the concept is good. Maybe the author could work on quality and worry a little less about the cash grab.
The narrator is pretty dang good
So even after this review I am going to purchase the second book.. hoping the author has figured his biz out and quits treating readers like they have Alzheimer

Such A Fine Brogue... But not a good book

The narrator does a good job, in fact, he alone is the brightspot in what is essentially a DOA, no pun intended, dropping with a thud—supremely dull and underwhelming story—in the Z-genre.

The author writes in platitudes, cliches, and stock characters vacuumed out of any WWII movie of the week drama or some you could even imagine were borrowed out of Dad’s Army.

Palmer (no worries, no spoilers) is as predictable as he is boring.

To convince myself I might be too harsh, I listened to passages of this book, then I listened to Wool.

I was right, which does me no favour, since I already bought this audiobook.

Wool takes (let’s be honest) relatively mundane events, but makes them exciting and interesting to discover where the plot will lead.

Apoc— does the opposite. It takes what should be a very interesting story and leadens it under the burden of stock sentences, characters, and beyond predictable moments, thus killing any suspense and enjoyment.

Apo— is like the kid trying to be cool around the campfire, holding the torch and making scary faces and a few howling noises, but lacking the wit and skill of a Stephen King or a Dean Koontz, or the power to suspend disbelief like a Max Brooks in the telling of a good story.

The narrator is top notch and extremely professional. There was one sentence and passage in particular where I could sense the narrator and me were simpatico and of one shared opinion.

I could sense he knew what he was reading was lame and weak, but he dramatised it with gusto. He never gave up on this story, and I admire his tenacity and gumption.

The prologue and some of the encounters with the Z’s are well-written and crafted. They were my favourite bits.

Unfortunately, the overall story was not remarkable or rememberable in any way, and especially not, when there are so many other much better books in this genre.

Sorry, I cannot recommend this book for the story, but I can give a thumbs up of approval to the narrator for a job well done.
