Intense Thriller

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving a review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is a fast-paced political thriller. Alana is a computer hacker and completely competent in all things related to technology. Her boyfriend Javier, also a hacker, has disappeared. When Alana doesn't hear from him in a few days, she breaks into his apartment to determine what may have happened to him. Unfortunately, the FBI was present looking for Javier too. The FBI believe that Javier is involving in a domestic terrorist group AntiAmerica while Alana is completely convinced he is not. She forms a deal with the FBI to find Javier but at the same time, contrary to the FBI's wishes, she is working to clear his name.

There is a lot of technical jargon, which I did not always understand but that did not detract from the story. This is a well written thriller that moves along at a breakneck pace. It seemed as if every moment was filled with something interesting and before you could completely digest it, you were already moving on to the next interesting tidbit. The moment you feel you have a handle as to what is going to happen next... no, there is a twist you did not see coming. I really enjoyed it.

The narrator, Molly Lankford, narrated this book at a good pace, which to me increased the intensity of the story and created the anticipation/anxiety of what was going to happen next.

a techno thriller

Not over all a bad book, but it seemed really fast, and I was a tad bit confused on some of the hacker lango? the writer just assumed we knew what it meant. with said, its not a bad read. it has some good parts to it.

Narration was OK. She had a great voice, but read VERY fast. nothing changing the speed couldn't fix.

ok....wow is a word...

holy crap this book is okay wow it was very very intense so many things in 6 hours wow the book was very very good it was more than enjoyable it was superb it wasn't an easy one but it was incredible

AntiAmerica Review

AntiAmerica was an interesting listen albeit a hard listen for me meaning it was read in what seemed like fast-forward and was very intense. I think the audiobook was good and a little frightening as this seems to be where things are at the moment. I also felt the narrator was good but the combination was too much.

This was a technothriller and therefore on point. There was a lot of information but it seemed over the top with the pace of the read along with the read itself.

The narration had an angry tone to it that seemed to overpower the story. It sounded harsh and that's where I found it hard to listen to. Perhaps if it had had some places where the reader used a softer tone to offset the harshness it would've worked better for me. I'm sure Molly Lankford will sound better if slowed down and less angry sounding. She has a pretty voice.

Fast Paced

The author does a great job of keeping this book very fast paced all the way through. It had the feel of a modern conspiracy type book, but (obviously) with fictional characters. It did make me kind of think about how things are going in the USA, how much of our lives technology is a part of and how easily controlled and manipulated we could be. Overall, I enjoyed this listen with all of it's real life implications and possibilities as well as its fictional twists and turns.

The narrator did a great job on this performance and fit Alana's character well and also was a great fit for this type of story.

This was a really intense book. The story is non-stop but fairly well written. There is lots of action and everying, including the narration, is at a break-neck pace. I actually reduced the speed a little bit to make it more comfortable to listen to. The narration is still well done, though. All in all, if you like a good cyber-thriller, I think you'd enjoy this book.

Hackers & Hacktivists Vs Big Business & Government

Alana Blake is a runaway teen making a living by selling data garnered by social engineering. Not sure what social engineering is? Neither did I until I read this book. It is full of techie terms of the new age and you will figure them out, as I did. I found the book a little hard to follow at the beginning, because of all the techie terms, but after a chapter or two I was hooked. Alana is forced into working with the FBI after she gets caught breaking and entering her boy friend Javier's apartment while trying to find him after he disappeared. The FBI are convinced that he is part of the AntiAmerica group of anarchists who hacked the main banks and funneled funds away after learning the banks were stealing from the clients and the government was aware of it. Alana also has some secrets that you will find out about as you progress through the book. I thought the book was well written and has an interesting bunch of characters and an excellent plot with a surprising ending. It leaves you wondering if this could actually happen.
