For fans of Octavia E Butler, Margaret Atwood and Naomi Alderman, a thrilling, heart-wrenching debut novel from Karla Marie Sweet, exploring disparity of privilege, the quest for identity and the human need for connection.

When the External Womb Programme is launched, the news is controversial. Hundreds take to the streets in protest, feeling strongly that growing a baby outside of the human body is "unnatural". But thousands more people rejoice: at last, an alternative for those who wish to have children but worry about the physical toll it may take. A chance that throwing a baby-shaped grenade into one's career path might not derail it entirely.

For Lucy, whose acting career is finally taking off, the news is well worth celebrating. Could having a baby this way mean she can have it all? As she and her husband James embark on their journey, however, it becomes clear she's not being entirely honest with him and, as an old flame returns, everything is thrown into jeopardy.

Decades later, the use of external wombs is commonplace. But a corrupt government stepping into power leads to this groundbreaking piece of technology falling into the wrong hands, forcing everyone to reckon with a challenging new world and their place within it.

Performed by Erin Doherty (The Crown) and Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love), Another Life marks the arrival of a brilliant new literary talent that will thrill, entertain and challenge you from beginning to end.

As someone who’s read many of the dystopian classics, I really enjoyed this modern story of two characters: A woman in the near-future, and a man in the far-future. The intertwining stories had so much depth and perspective. Definitely one of the best newer novels I’ve consumed in quite a while! I won’t be surprised if this book is considered a modern classic in the years to come! This story will also make a great Television Series.

The story was okay. I thought maybe it will have a grand conclusion, but it didn't seemed to just stop short. one of the main characters, Omar, reading/ voice portrail was bland and was lacking energy.

Kept me interested to see what was going to happen to all the characters and how the pieces fit together

Interesting dystopian story told in a unique way

Interesting idea but the self absorbed narration, the time skipping and then around chapter 5 the recording speed and sound change to an annoying level.

Interesting Idea but . . . .

This story is is so gripping because it explores privilege and abuse of power. So very haunting in these times.

Powerful, captivating and thought provoking

Great contrast between alternating timelines. The character arcs was compelling. Timely given current events. Well performed. It would have been nice to see more interaction between the main character in each timeline and their secondary and tertiary relationships. The state worker timeline with Omar seemed to develop his relationship with other character's better but would have liked more.

I’m not sure how this book popped up on my account but I hit play anyway. I was immediately captivated by Lucy and having no idea what it was about, I thought this was auto biographical because I normally listening to philosophy or life management books. This was a captivating journey into a totally believable reality. I won’t draw any parallels because I don’t want to spoil anything but there was just enough twists, turns, tragedy’s, and beauty to make it believable. Both voice actors were phenomenal.
