Another excellent story in the series

It is such a pleasure to find an author who creates an interesting series of stories, with an admirable and well developed set of characters that travel from story to story. Charles Finch has become one of my favorite authors, actually rather unexpectedly, as his first two stories in the series were so excellent, I thought he'd be unable to continue producing such high quality work. I am so very happy he's proved me wrong. This is book 7 in the series, and the quality of his plots, and the development of the personalities of his characters continues to delight and surprise. The reader also continues from book to book, and his voice is perfect for the series. I highly recommend this series if you like Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, Anne Perry, Dorothy Sayers, Ngaio Marsh.

Mr. Finch once again entertained me with an excellent Lenox adventure. I greatly enjoy each book and how the characters continue to evolve and grow.

Good mystery, British aristocracy circa 1875.

This is the first Charles Lenox mystery I have read. As a mystery, it was good enough, although Lenox ranges from inspired brilliance to unable to recognize his face in the mirror. There's quite a bit of both history and reflections on British society in the late 1800's, especially about the aristocracy and royalty, landed gentlemen and their aversion to work of any sort. Lenox is also a Member of the House of Commons, having given up his official role as an private dectective; he's an aristocrat who somehow has the trust of Scotland Yard. Having said that, I personally don't much care for the Victorian period, never cared for the privileges of aristocracy, and am repelled by monarchs. So I think it'll be a while before I take up any other books in this series. No fault of the author; he is a good writer. The narrator was fine.

I love this book series, and this one in particular. It is so well done, on every level. The writing is brilliant and the narrator is incredibly talented!

I have enjoyed each of the Lenox mysteries by Charles Finch. The characters continue to develop and become more interesting with each book.
James Langton is my favorite narrator of all-time. Excellent!

Amazing blend of compelling characters and a complex, well-crafted mystery

The Charles Lenox series is among the very best in a crowded field of English historical mysteries. Each new entry is a treat from start to finish. The many characters are each fully drawn and engaging throughout. It is truly amazing to find a series with so many compelling characters and an old school attention to the details of an excellent mystery.

Victorian era detective

I am so enjoying all of these Inspector Lenox mysteries by Charles Finch. And the narration is quite superb. I hope the BBC will adapt these stories for a series.
