Resumen del Editor

A broken cop. A fragile child. Will they save each other?

Detective Harvey Sam's training at The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children prepared him for the most important case of his career to date: the abduction of eight-year-old Gabriel Wheeler. Nothing, however, could prepare him for the boy's blame-shifting mother from hell who shoots up instead of alerting police when the boy goes missing. Nor is Harvey equipped to deal with the heartbreak when his girlfriend leaves him on the same night, taking Effie, the nonbiological young daughter Harvey adores.

The case goes cold when Harvey fails to interview Effie's best friend, the only witness able to identify the perpetrator's car. As police resources are wasted on dead ends and wrong suspects, Gabriel receives unlikely help to escape from Willard Crawley, a simpleminded abductor seeking a replacement for the infant brother he accidentally suffocated years before.

Audiobook one in the Missing and Exploited Suspense series, All That Remains explores childhood resiliency in a dangerous adult world.

The Angel Gabriel

5+ stars on this one!!! This books touches your soul (if you have one) and literally had tears coming down my face as I was listening to this heart wrenching book.

There is 2 stories, that mingle together near the end, to tie this in a nice package. The first story is about a little boy, Gabriel Wheeler, whose mother was a prostitute that needed her "medicine" to get through the day and a father that is in an asylum. The teacher wanted Gabriel to be the angel at the Christmas play and the excitement and joy that this little boy feels, that he has been chosen, makes him so happy. However, his mom needed her medicine and the "medicine" made her fall asleep, so she was not able to take her son to the school play, so he started to walk the long way there in the wet, cold snow. On the way, a man, Willard Crawley, offers him a piece of candy and later kidnaps this poor boy.

Story 2, is Detective Harvey Sam is on his way to the same Christmas play, so he can watch his daughter Effie do her ballerina dance, however, Effie's best friend, actually knocks Effie off of the stage, where Effie ends up with a broken bone. Earlier that same day, Sam comes home to an empty house, because his wife was leaving him and taking Effie with her. Detective Sam ends up getting assigned the case of Gabriel Wheeler, the missing boy that is mentioned above and prays he can find this child before it is too late.

Exciting debut to promising series

The characters in this story are fully developed, flaws and all, although Willard seems a little too adept at covering his tracks for someone so simple-minded. I'm not fond of dream sequences, but they were integral to this story, however I think they could have been shortened a bit. Aside from that, this is a very suspenseful story.

Kevin Clay's performance is outstanding. He gives distinctive and appropriate voices to the characters, including accents. Not to give too much away, but I'm especially impressed with his voicing of a famous actor later in the story.

This is an exciting first novel in this promising new series.

Abducted

Gabriel is an eight year old boy, with a drug using prostitute mother, who goes missing during a Christmas pageant. He is abducted by insane feeble minded Willard, who thinks Gabriel is his long dead younger brother. His mother doesn’t even notice that he is gone for more than 12 hours. Parts of this book are dark with disturbing psychological suspense that showcases the resilience of children. I look forward to the sequels. Sad But Uplifting Story

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

Here, Gabriel is being raised by a drug-addled prostitute mother. She is frequently too out of it to be real mother or even notice Gabriel. Gabriel is raising himself and he loves school. He is in the Christmas pageant and he promised his teacher he would attend. However, when his mother is again lost to the world in a drug induced haze, Gabriel makes his way to the school alone. After arriving at the pageant, he is kidnapped. His mother does not even notice that he has gone. Detective Sam, whose GF and her daughter leave him that very same night, is assigned to the case.

This is a well-written psychological suspense story. The subject matter deals with abused/damaged children and the adults these children can become. While at times, it was a difficult read, due to the subject matter, it was still full of hope and difficult to put down. This isn't a whodunit mystery. It is a character-driven story, as we learn about the the lives of all those linked to the disappearance of Gabriel. Although dark in parts, I loved that Gabriel was portrayed as such an extremely resilient little boy. Detective Sam, along with most of the MC's, is flawed but very believable as he tries to deal with the loss of his own child [well, his GF's child] while looking for Gabriel and being taunted by Gabriel's n'er do-well mother when he cannot immediately find him.

The narrator did a very good job conveying the sadness and hope of this story.

So many incredibly unlikable people!!!

I started and stopped this book so many times. It's a well-written story with incredible narration and yet, I had to keep walking away. I did not want these people in my head too long.

The disappearance of Gabriel is at the core of the story. His mother, her boyfriend, Gabriel's father, Gabriel's kidnapper, the cop trying to find him, Gabriel's erstwhile rescuer, they all had a degree of ick that made this book, as awesome as it is, just a tad hard to take in big doses.

It's a good book, an excellent book in fact. Just incredibly unpleasant.

Deep and Disturbing

I did enjoy this gut wrenching book about the abduction of Gabriel Wheeler by Willard and trying to get Gabriel found is Detective Harvey Sam as he is experiencing a rough time in his life. Gabriel has not lead a happy life thus far with drug addicted mother, Willard also had a horrific life and thinks Gabriel is his brother and treats him like his grandfather treated him. Loved the characters of Chase and her dog Radar. Recommend if you like a deep psychological police thriller with good narration. Unrealistic characterizations of adults

This author takes a serious subject (child abuse and neglect) and turns it into an episode from the Jerry Springer show. Many of the adults come across as over the top, superficial stereotypes of trailer trash, including spousal and child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, prostitution, a sadistic Elvis impersonator----and that's just describing one couple! Then, when the young child is kidnapped from this "home" and forced to live with a crazed killer, it begs credulity. A lot of eye rolling on my part as I listened to this audiobook. The narration was very good; unfortunately the story was not. I received a free copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review.
