Not Really a Thriller, But a Beautiful Book

I'm a mystery/psychological thriller fan, and I wouldn't really call this either...not really suspenseful. However, it was very psychological. What the book lacks in suspense, it makes up for in engrossing language and well written character development. Despite my having expected it to be something different than what it turned out to be, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Fisher has a way of drawing you into the world that she has created and making you feel the things that her character feels to the extent that one can when reading fiction. I didn't mind the voice of the audio book narrator, but I didn't think she did some of the phrasing or emotion justice. She sounded a bit wooden in parts, as if she was reading the story aloud without being connected to it. That didn't detract from the story, but I did get a bit distracted by it a couple times and had to back up and listen to certain parts again. It was an excellent book, though, and one I'm glad to have read. I enjoyed Mud Vein too, so I will definitely be on the lookout for future works by this author.

As a huge Tarryn Fisher fan, I know she writes dark stories. I usually prefer to read them. I feel like it is a better experience with her books. But the narration on this was great. I think it really added to my enjoyment of the book.

Promising story but ultimately was ambiguous & flat

This book was extremely powerful in the first half or so! The pain experienced by Margot and the residents of The Bone was chilling and heartbreaking. There was an unexpected plot twist, which I enjoyed greatly and was eager to see where it led, but ultimately my questions weren’t answered and it felt too ambiguous to be an intentional “readers interpretation” ending. The narrator is what helped award four stars, because she was a great fit for the main character. Despite the rather disappointing ending, I am still interested in reading more Tarryn Fisher!

OMG

This is another amazing book by Tarryn Fisher. I have been on a Tarryn Fisher binge since I listened to Mud Vein 4 days ago. this is my 3rd audiobook of hers since then. it was amazing. Definitely didnt disappoint!!! I love how when you think it is one thing, it turns out to be another. Can't wait to listen to more of her books!!

Good Read

This was a good read BUT not a fan of the narrator. She was very one dimensional in her tone an fit ruined for me some very sinister moments.

First, I didn’t know what story I was listening to (audiobook), then I thought I had it figured out, and then…. I was like, WTF this is completely different than initially anticipated, in a good way! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It kept my interest throughout and was tilde at a god pace with plenty of mystery, a few nuggets of suspense, and a few worthwhile twisty surprises. I can’t say much more with spoiling it, but I would highly recommend! The protagonist is likable, resilient, fierce, and strange. However you do empathize with her and come to understand her thought process. I’ll be thinking of this book long after I’m done with it. The audiobook narrator was awesome too!

not what I expected

a disturbing story but kept me listening. not what I expected but the mind is very complex and will do what it has to to survive.

would recommend. I could see her progressing as the story went on i could tell how itd end.

Tartan Did It Again

This book is a must read. I was in edge every chapter and every time I thought I had it figured out and that the end was nearing, surprise.
I enjoyed other books by this author but this was was by far within my top.

THIS BOOK WILL NOT LEAVE YOU INDIFFERENT, IT TOUCHED VERY DELICATE THEMES LIKE THE INFANTICIDE, HOMICIDE AND JUSTICE TO BE TAKEN BY HIS OWN HAND. MARGOT TRIES TO FIND A LITTLE HOPE WITHIN THE CRUDE AND CRUEL WORLD THAT I LET HER TO LIVE, BUT FOR MORE THAN SHE TRIES IT, PART OF HER SOUL IS LOST IN THE PROCESS.
