The very weird tone of voice in some parts

I really don’t know if there is a story within the half of this series I put up with before stopping. There is a lot of shooting and killing over and over which gets pretty boring and repetitive, but there could be a story still. But I can’t tell, because the AI voice, while sufficient most of the time, completely throws off the narrative over and over again in between the ok parts. I didn’t want to finish listening and felt a sense of relief when I decided to stop, after getting almost halfway through. No criticism for trying an AI voice, I mean someday it may actually work. But it doesn’t work yet.

Also, this book was free to me with audible plus. I’m not upset about paying for it and getting what I got. And… If human voices redid the book I’d try it again.

I love the virtual voice..

I didn’t think I would, but, toopa toopa toop is too funny. Like a song stuck in my mind, I find myself thinking toopa toopa. Each blaster or grenade has its own sound, so there’s plenty of choices for a favorite. Sometimes the cadence or inflection is funny, but the story is good - a little silliness just adds to it.

AI Reader sux, Story is Awesome!

the story has a great cadence and moved well. the AI Reader sux, timing and syntax errors, inconsistent and mostly wrong pronunciation, and no proper inflection with the storytelling. I expect better from this Author.

Toopa toopa toopa

The performance was extremely irritating. Every time a weapon fires the AI voice says various versions of toopa toppa and other really silly sounds. The story is so full of holes that one can't take it seriously.. If you just want noise in your ear this is the book for you.

ai narration problems

great story, plot, character depth, humor, and clear knowledge of various different topics from government to history to war. i would give perfect score if not for the ai . it really distracted from the experience to have the ai narrator mispronounce so many words. I really wish Mr. Reed would have listened to the narration even once... he might have realized he needed a better ai reader or even just a friend with the ability to pronounce all the words correctly while reading it out loud. words like Lead which have other ways of pronouncing them depending on the context really ate at my attention. Do you realize exactly how many times Lead is printed in the book... and it isn't the only thing I heard that would have been fixed simply by paying a human to read it.

Decent story but difficult to listen to.

The difficulty lies in the limitations and stupidity of the virtual voice. Mispronunciation, poor dramatization and down right stupid reading limitations. If you can overcome your irritation of the former, it is an, otherwise, enjoyable story.

Exciting action

Good story and characters I love. The virtual voice is pretty awful. If it weren't for the story I would've quit. Why would you program it to say "sob" instead of s.o.b. or several other words that shouldn't be fouled up.

Characters

I loved listening to how the characters developed through out the series. So enjoyable through long drives.

Don't bother

This is AI narrated and absolutely horrible. Don't buy it. Even if it is "Free"!! The AI can't say the same word twice the same way in the same paragraph. I had high hopes in the first few minutes but the inflection, pacing, pronunciation, and delivery dropped off a cliff. It is just awful. The story line is shallow as is the character development. And several of them are just juvenile caricatures poorly executed. The plot and story arc are weak at best. I have no idea how it's rated at a 4.2. Don't buy it.
