I have read several titles by Phillip Margolin and was disappointed in After Dark. The plot was too predictable and at times I felt like I was reading a romance novel instead of a legal mystery. I was not drawn into this story at all.

It reads like a course in criminal law. It’s complex, riveting, suspenseful. There’s no way to see the end that’s coming; always misleading as the plot ebbs and flows. Totally absorbing.

Presented perfectly. It held my attention from beginning to end. I have read many books by Phillip and this is the best.

After Dark was first released over 20 years ago. The novel is filled with twists and turns; nothing is as it seems to be. In my opinion the multiple twists near the end of the novel are a bit too much; the final ones detract from the novel. Still, After Dark is an excellent legal thriller. I like Margolin's recent novels more.

In past reviews I have repeatedly complained about the whiny voice of narrator Angela Dawe and have given her narrations 1 star on several occasions. Dawe does a great job narrating After Dark; the whiny voice is not present.
