Resumen del Editor

The fifth installment of the popular Lesson series—featuring therapist, professor, and reluctant sleuth David Unger.

It’s 1984, and David is off the couch once more and providing support to the team-building efforts of a publishing start-up at the LA Dodgers Adult Fantasy Camp in Florida.

As David seeks the elusive home run that will elevate his love life from the minors, team rivalries simmer, and he is drawn into a web of lies, suspicion, and drug smuggling. Teambuilding becomes less of a goal and more of a necessity as members start to show up dead.

When the pitches get even wilder, David has to get creative with his sleuthing to avoid striking out and is glad to have the support of a friendly face in the form of Lucky, a cab driver with a big heart and enough relatives to fill Dodger stadium.

As events come to a head, David’s at bat.

Can he deliver the game-winning hit that retires the killer?

Big Winner

Totally enjoyed this. I am not a baseball fan but was totally taken with the story and well developed characters. The narrator really brought the book to life. Very funny, very insightful as I learned baseball is a metaphor for life, and completely fooled me. Excellent all around the bases.

A Home Run

Once again, he hits it out of the ballpark. Not being a baseball fan, I didn’t think I was going to like this one so much, but Unger’s imaginative characters and scenes as well as his unrelenting wit make this book quite the adventure. From a clarinet tie clip, to cocaine baseballs, to amusing baseball jargon, Unger lures you along as you try to figure out who dunnit. I’m happy to say that one of my favorite characters, Lucky, is part of the journey; and, as always, there are lots of keen therapeutic insights. The Ghostbusters and the Bee Gees are just two of the marvelous 1980's references Unger sprinkles out as we are led around the bases. Of all the books I’ve read so far, this ending was the most surprising! And, as usual, Jake does an outstanding job in voicing all of the players so true to character.*

*Please note that the author had a book promotion that I was fortunate enough to take advantage of and, although I did get the book for free, I would have happily paid for it as I so enjoy the series.

Knocked it out of the park

I thoroughly enjoyed this home run of a murder mystery. The narrator, Jake Austin Robertson, immersed me in the experience as the story unraveled. I was on the edge of my seat! I’m also a huge fan of Lucky as a recurring character. What an amazing voice Jake has given him to bring to life the awesome character written by David Unger. Great job all around!
