Resumen del Editor

After yellow fever decimated the crew of Alan Lewrie's HMS Proteus, it had seemed like a good idea to abscond with a dozen slaves from a Jamaican plantation to help man his frigate. But two years later, Lewrie is now suspected of the deed. Slave-stealing is a hanging offense, and suddenly his neck is at risk of a fatal stretching. Once Lewrie has escaped, the master Foreign Office spy, Zachariah Twigg, arranges for a long voyage even further out of the law's reach, to Cape Town and India, as escort to an East India Company convoy. At the Cape of Good Hope a British circus and theatrical troupe also joins the party, teeming with tempting female acrobats, nubile bareback riders, and alluring "actresses" like the seductive but deadly archer Eudoxia Durschenko. It will take all Lewrie's shrewd guile, wit, and steely self-control to worm his way out of trouble, and keep his breeches chastely buttoned to avoid even more troubles...or will he?

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Lambdin's novel is rich in 18th century nautical detail that does not overwhelm. He captures the linguistic diversity of his well-defined characters." (Historical Novel Society)

More Lewrie fun

If you could sum up A King's Trade in three words, what would they be?

I was thrilled to see that 2 new titles of the series had been added to the series. It had been a while since book 12 and I was thinking that I'd have to start reading. But this and 14 came out and I am thankful! I hope they see fit to,record the rest!

What about John Lee’s performance did you like?

Everything. One of my favorites.

Any additional comments?

Please put the rest of the series on audiobook.

Always a rake

Love the adventures of captain Alan.
These stories mix life on land and sea quite well.

"Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!"

It is a circus. Less bawdy soft porn, more character development, I liked it. Lewrie is being mature...still a horny bastard, but in more control.

Good story, Alan works to redeem himself

John Lee's narration is spot on for this type of story. This moves Alan forward to redeem himself after past problems. You can see a light at the end of the tunnel for him.

Still good, but...

Would you consider the audio edition of A King's Trade to be better than the print version?

I have book though I have yet not read the print.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Allan Lewrie is still my favorite character, because I saw him come to age in the series and enjoy seeing him prosper.

What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

John Lee is one of my favorite readers. I look for audio books that he is reading.

Any additional comments?

The story was good, but I had less of the tantalizing suspense for his survival and future than I have had in the past.

At Last!! More in the Lewrie Series!

What made the experience of listening to A King's Trade the most enjoyable?

I am thrilled that more of the Lewrie Series is on Audible. I listen while driving and, years ago, was actually forced to read the printed version of A Captain's Vengeance. John Lee's interpretation is much better than my imagination.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Easily Alan Lewrie. Dewey Lambdin has made Lewrie a marvel of hilarious actions and emotions, spoken and, even funnier, unspoken.

What about John Lee’s performance did you like?

Everything. He plays Lewrie with real gusto. I cannot imagine anyone else giving voice to Lewrie.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I don't have a clue.

Any additional comments?

There are books still waiting to be audibilized...or made available. Do it, please.
