Resumen del Editor

In difficult circumstances Charlotte Ward, once a famed stage actress, tries to restart her career - only to experience disaster. Against her better judgment, her estranged daughter, Rosalind, comes to her mother's rescue and moves her to a quiet English coastal village. Charlotte is grateful to get to know Rosalind after years apart.

As one who has regrets about her own romantic past, it's a joy for Charlotte to see love blossom for her daughter. For Rosalind, however, it's time away from teaching - and now she must care for the mother who wasn't there for her. And what could be more complicated than romance? Together mother and daughter discover that healing is best accomplished when they focus less on themselves and more on the needs of others.

A Surprising Delight!

I've gotta admit it: I just like bathing in chick lit every now and again. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it can be pretty shallow, so I keep my expectations low.
How delighted I was then with "A Haven on Orchard Lane". It's not a shallow read, but is filled with lovely writing, very likable characters, and situations where you root for the heroes. There are scenarios where you want to kick people, scenarios where you think Rosalind just might be making a devastating mistake. And Charlotte, who starts out a bit vain even if downtrodden, works towards turning an act of kindness into a life-changing decision for two precious but abused boys.
11+ hours of a sweet listen that I don't regret at all.

Humility, Hurt, Healing and Hope

When aging stage actress, Charlotte Ward flees her verbally abusive second husband and makes an attempt at an acting comeback, she forgets her lines and is sadly secreted away to a mental hospital to recover. Her estranged daughter, Rosalind whom was raised by Charlotte’s sister, grudgingly comes to her rescue and brings her mother to a coastal village to rest and recuperate. To Rosalind’s surprise, Charlotte is nothing like what she expected. As the two women get to know one another, both begin to enjoy one another’s company and learn there is grace enough for forgiveness and healing. The gentle pace of the story is soothing and calming, just what one needs after listening to more edgy mysteries. But not boring in the least. As Charlotte and Rosalind get to know each other and the others in the small town, the tale gets better and better. The friendship of the women with two young boys whose step mother fails to nourish and care for them is one of the best parts of the book. The servants in the cottage where Charlotte and Rosalind live also become close friends with them and are integral to the story. The faith of both mother and daughter is refreshing. The budding romance between Rosalind and the bookseller, Jude Pearce (with his dog, Jinny) was fabulous. Sweet and thoughtful, in keeping with the times. Excellent resolution. Wish there were more of this author’s books on Audible.

Glad to a new Lawana Blackwell book!

Would you consider the audio edition of A Haven on Orchard Lane to be better than the print version?

I love the various voices, which bring the characters to life and Beverley Crick is an excellent reader.

What does Beverley A. Crick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her excellent reading helped me to envision the characters, the house and garden, the situations.

Any additional comments?

I hope Lawanna Blackwell gifts us with another book soon!

I loved this book!

This is a sweet, lovely story that reminds me of gentle works like Cranford or maybe something written by Julie Klassen. I had just listened to a stressful book about the Holocaust and needed something to sooth my heart. This was just right!
