New Narrator might have saved it

I couldn't make it past the first chapter. I truly think this could be a great book, if not for the narrator. The tempo and cadence of the reading never changed, the narrator's tone never changed; she was monotone and seemed to be trying to use a sultry, seductive voice for the protagonist, but it was just lacking. I use audio books while driving, so I've listened to quite a few, but I might try reading this in paperback so I can give the story another chance.

Update: I tried to listen a second time to see if I could handle it a little better. Nope. Narration is still terrible, which is unfortunate for the author because I feel the author's work is being negatively impacted by the poor choice in narrator.

Undecided

Ok... its kind of hard for me to like Sam... she kills animals and people for no reason... shes mean... sometimes she appears to have feelings which makes it hard for me to completely hate her. I do like the story but the beginning is slow and it picks up eventually. For now its ok but... its just really hard to like her... when I think its possible she does something awful... ugh . .. the struggle.

excellent new author /series

I got the book based on an audible customer service recommendation and I'm glad I took the chance. I love the irreverence of the heroine and the twist on preconceived good vs. Bad.
Performance was a bit frustrating at first, but soon got used to it.
The blurb already gives you an idea of the content (which I don't think did the book much justice!) But I would add: prepare for an amazingly good journey. Already looking to get the next book (TGIF!)

Uneven Results

I had to keep checking to see if I had ended up with a YA selection. The narrator was very slow and precise, except during conversations among the characters. The steamy scenes frequently seemed contrived and disconnected; as if they were thrown in because an editor reminded the author "sex sells". The gratuitous vulgar language was off-putting to me. Yet the story had sufficient potential that I slogged my way through to the inevitable happy ending.

good book! funny, entertaining

I did really enjoy this book, although I don't know yet if I want to listen to the second book in this series. At times, it seemed to drag on about small things. It felt as though the plot was just 5 seconds of the book where it was mostly inside the main characters head and her relationship with a human, angel and werewolf. I don't know, maybe I should listen again and really immerse myself into her world.

I'm excited to hear more

The performance leaves little to be desired. Thank goodness the story is a great find. Demons, check. Angels, sexual tension, werewolves. Check. Throw in fight scenes and we have a perfect story. I highly recommend it.

A demon bound

Started out very slow almost gave up on the book... Towards the end it got really good now I have to listen to the second book!!!!

different. entertaining. but listen at 1.15x

I really like that it's written from the "bad guy's" point of view. hope that doesn't get lost in the series' other books. The overall story and world/magic-building was well thought out and done - and had some interesting departures from the typical judeo-christian lore. The performance was good, but annoyingly, almost excruciatingly, slow. Played at 1.15x it sounded almost normal. 1.17x would have been perfect, if an option. Regardless, can't wait to hear the rest of the series.

Story great

I started this book at one point and turned off. I thought it sounded stupid in the first and second chapter. I came back to it and started it again. I really enjoyed this book.

Any additional comments?

Let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. The narrator has long pauses between words and sentences. She is also bad at projecting emotions. No matter what she is reading she sounds like she is smiling. A good narrator for a children's book but not an adult book.
The biggest flaw in A Demon Bound is the romance portion. Not the fact there is romance but the character Wiet...Whiet...the neighbor. The guy is a man child pro gamer and is so uninteresting I couldn't care less if he was eaten by a...well anything. George R.R. Martin kill this character for this author. All Whiet does is play video games, take care of his neighbor's pool, animals, and lawn, drink, and sleeps around. His house is a mess accept for his game room. If the author didn't give him a bunch of unexplained knowlege with guns, hacking, and a bunch of other super nerd skills he would be that guy from work you can't stand to be around. This I could get past if they didn't go from the 2 year friend zone status directly into true love que the crappy chick flick music BS. How do you jump from casual friendly neighbor to do anything for you my one and forever only love.
I enjoyed the main character and found the story to be interesting. It makes me think of a cross between Mercy Thomson and Sandman Slim. I am in book 3 and it still is good. Unfortunately Whiet is still in it and their love is as strong as ever barf.
