Resumen del Editor

They've escaped to the outside world - but can they really be free?

David and Isaac have found happiness in each other's arms. In faraway San Francisco, Isaac's brother Aaron helps them explore confusing "English" life and move beyond the looming shadow of their Amish roots. For the first time, David and Isaac can be openly gay, yet they struggle to reconcile their sexuality with their faith. At least they don't have to hide their relationship, which should make everything easier. Right?

But while Isaac thrives at school and makes new friends, David wrestles to come to terms with the reality of the outside world. Haunted by guilt at leaving his mother and sisters behind in Zebulon, he's overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the city as he works to get his carpentry business off the ground.

While David and Isaac finally sleep side by side each night, fear and insecurity could drive them miles apart.

Contains mature themes.

soo relatable

I love this book! I resonate so deeply with Aaarons feelings and David's experience in the world. I still sometimes struggle with culture shock and all that goes along with leaving the Plain culture . Thank you for this book Keira!

Excitement and Pain

I spent most of the story worrying for David and hoping someone would notice his pain even during the excitement of being I the world. I loved Isaac's family and their help. The ending well since I finished listening to the book on the way home I can't wait to get home and order the next book. But as chaotic as the ending was at least you are left with hope.

I’m still crying

This dragged a bit. It’s very angsty too. So if you’re not into that it’s a lot. Triggering to those who might suffer from sexual assault, anxiety and panic attacks and alcoholism. There’s a lot here. I just wish more people saw David’s severe depression and pain. He is such a good person and it’s so hard to see him unravel. If the bartender was a real person omg I’d go see him and give him a hug. The sister in law too. Both of them were fantastic. Clark not so much. 😒

Love this series

Although I thought the end of this second book dragged a bit, I was right in there, invested. Am starting Book 3 tonite. Narrator Solo is, as always, top notch.

A whole new world

I love this book even though it makes me sad how distant Issac and David have become. But I can imagine how mind altering it would be to leave that environment. I’m excited to move on to the next and hoping for a HEA.

amazing

It's review time 🎧
Warning ⚠️ : Amish religion, male to male love. A lot of s**
Narrator score🎧 ; I really love Jon solo I think she's work is marvelous and incredible and he managed surprise me in my opinion this was the best series that this narrator performed the characters and feelings... i just dont even. John was absalutly extraordinary.

Level of steam🔥: well as they apparently say, the deeper the denial the deeper the desire. It was hot super hot 🔥 those two experimented a lot with their bodies.

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: i have to say it wasn't as terrible as I thought it would, I bought this series as soon as it came out on audible, but it took me a long would to listen to it because I wasn't in the mood to cry my soul out, and though I did cry in some parts of this trilogy, It wasn't as terrible as I thought it will be.

The book itself📖: wow , this author did an incredible research before she wrote the books, and you can see.
Both chapters were beautiful to me, I love them so much. And I will think about those books a lot after today.
Look, I admire this author, because homophobia is a subject that should be spoken about yet, unfortunately .
But it's more than that, she respected a whole community without being ethnocentric, and it's very important that she gave us the listeners/readers the opportunity to be in a world without judging it as a writer.

Great trilogy

I realized that I really enjoy KA books, not a single one disappointed me.
I liked a lot this trilogy, with the second one being the most boring. Strength of Isaac and David, their love, but also their inner struggle kept me on the edge. I liked the end as well,it is hea, but realistic one for them and their families.
I have learned some details about Amish, that I didn't know before, which is additional plus.

Real world problems...

4 stars for the narrator.

3 stars for the story.

Sorry but this one was nothing but a constant downer. I understand David was adjusting to his new life but he was nothing but pure negativity. I was not a fan of his perspective.

Oh and the fight at the end really showed Isaac's immaturity. You cannot control others actions but you can control your own and David did everything right when it came to Clark kissing him. I'm team David on that one. Isaac had many reasons to be upset but that was not one of them. It seems when these two got in the big world they lost eachother and forgot how to openly communicate which was a massive disappointment. I'm still rooting for them though. On to the next one...
