In this steamy, age-gap, forbidden-love cowboy romance for fans of Lyla Sage, Bailey Hannah, and Elsie Silver, a free spirit finds herself working for a former pro bull rider...who has secrets behind those ocean-deep eyes.
Being hired by a ranch for the summer sounds picture-perfect, right? Except your new boss looks a whole lot like every fantasy and daydream you've ever had come to life—oh, and he's already accidentally seen your favorite "toy."
I've always been the hyper-independent free spirit. Sage Maloney, the wild child. The eldest daughter, with my heart locked away safely out of sight. I had a summer of fun ahead of me.
Only, I didn't count on a former pro bull rider to stride into my life. Beau Heartford. The much older cowboy with a mustache to go weak at the knees for.
He's a whole package of temptation. Someone who lures me in with glimpses of what it might be like to let my guard down, to be taken care of.
My married boss.
Summer days rapidly turn scorching in this sleepy little town among the mountains. As the temperature continues to climb, we're both stuck fighting a mutual attraction we can't ignore.
Sparks fly, and we really should be putting more distance between the two of us. In this scenario, more is at stake than just crossing a line between boss and employee. There's a wedding band on this cowboy's finger.
Taming the Heart is book three in the Crimson Ridge series of interconnected standalones. It can be listened to on its own. Contains mature content. A complete list of content warnings can be found on the author's website.

I knew from book 1 that I would fall in love with Sage, and she is probably one of my absolute favorite FMCs ever! She is strong, hilarious, self assured, says whats on her mind, goes after what she wants, and is just an all around badass! I looooved her so much! Plus, she's just as filthy as Beau and lawd knows I love me some of that too!!
Beau, aka C*ck Ring (hahahaha), was so heartwrenching! He was stuck between a rock and a hard place with his "wife" for sooooo long and couldn't live his life without her finding a way to taint it. The pining he did for Sage, and when he finally broke,,,BLESS HIM! He and Sage were fire personified!! I loved their dynamic, their banter, their angst, their emotional turmoil, their love, their spice, ugh just EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF THEM!
I could honestly talk about them forever, I just love them so much! I feel like this series has become one of my comfort series.
Beau & Sage FOREVER!

It was good, BUT…..

I was so ready for Sage’s story. She’s been the confident, sex-positive, hilarious sidekick from the beginning—the kind of character you just know is going to bring the heat and the chaos in her own book. And then throw in Beau: a gruff, mustachioed ex-pro bull rider with a 16-year age gap and a soft spot for Sage? Yes. Please. Immediately.
That said… the fake-ish marriage plotline? Meh. Clunky is the only word I’ve got. We find out Beau got married at the height of his career (cool), but apparently they just… stayed married for branding even though they lived separate lives for a decade? And now he’s retired and somehow still thinks he’ll lose the ranch if he divorces her? It gave soap opera energy but without enough explanation or stakes to make it feel believable.
And then there’s Sage. Listen, I wanted to love her—really. But her back-and-forth energy started to wear me down. She’s so bold and self-assured in her sexuality and her job, but when it comes to Beau, she waffles. One minute she wants him desperately, the next she’s moral high-grounding him about the marriage… while still sleeping with him. Girl. Pick a lane.
Beau, on the other hand, was a cinnamon roll cowboy wrapped in flannel and regret. He was so down bad for her. Honestly, painfully so. And maybe that’s why the romance felt a little lopsided—because I wasn’t always sure Sage felt the same way. Add in the classic third-act breakup where Sage just peaces out for a whole year (???) and I’m left craving a romance with a couple that actually stays and works through their stuff together like adults.
BUT, credit where credit is due: the spice was chef’s kiss (I mean, it’s Elliott Rose—what did we expect?). And I loved seeing Sage push Beau’s boundaries in the bedroom in a way that felt empowering and playful. It’s always nice when the woman is the one cracking open the man’s vanilla shell.
While this wasn’t my favorite of the series, Crimson Ridge is still top-tier small-town romance with heart, heat, and a whole cast of characters I want to befriend in real life. I’m very ready for Kayce’s story—bring on the chaos.

The combination of humor, spice, sweetness, and angst is always perfection imo. This is the 4th book I’ve read of hers, but the first I’ve listened to. Trust that I will be listening to the others very shortly lol.
This is also the first time listening to Gabriel and Amy, and they are definitely going on the favorites list! A lot of narrators sound great but miss a lot of the inflection and feelings, but these two (especially Gabriel with the extra sounds he makes, spicy and benign lol) really bring the story to life. 10/10!!!
Holy hotness!
