Resumen del Editor

Marcus Roth is a top criminal lawyer by day and demon-slaying warder by night, but he is simply one of five warders—not really important to anyone but Joseph Locke, his hearth. Or so Marcus mistakenly believes. On a trip to Lexington, Kentucky, to celebrate Joe’s grandfather’s birthday, that belief changes as Marcus unwittingly uncovers a paranormal dilemma and ends up revealing his identity as a warder to Joe’s family.

Faced with a traitor, demons, and the return of an old enemy, Marcus must put his own needs aside to save his friends—though in so doing he may lose the man he loves forever. Even living through the ordeal might not be enough if Marcus can’t forgive himself and learn that his hearth and the rest of his clutch can’t do without him.

One of the best in this series - LOVE JOE!

This is book 3 of the Warder Series, so by now you know that each town has Warders who protect the city from demons and things that go bump in the night. Each Warder has a Hearth. The Hearth is important because most “regular humans” have their energy drained by spending too much time around a Warder and end up hurt or worse. When a Warder meets a human who isn’t drained by them, they can potentially be their Hearth, or someone they can live with and love, their caretaker after they return from fighting evil.
In book three, Marcus has already found his Hearth, Joe, and the two are with Joe’s family in Kentucky for Joe’s grandfather’s birthday. While there, Marcus discovers that Joe’s dad is being shaken down by a demon and a corrupt Warder. He steps in to fix things after enlisting the help of the other Warders and ends up nearly losing his life.
After months of recovery he makes his way back to Joe, but he fears Joe may no longer want him, since he put himself at risk rather than save himself for Joe.
In the end, after much drama, the pair is stronger than ever and the entire “Clutch” of Warders is even stronger than before.
I really enjoyed the entire Warder series. I loved the relationships between Hearth and Warder and between the Warders themselves. The demons they fight are scary and the “action” in each book is always exciting. In this book the drama is extra scary, but also really funny. All the Warders have to go clubbing (essentially) to gain admittance to the demon they are hunting and that scene was hilarious.
Joe is snarky and sweetly needy, a fantastic juxtaposition for Marcus’ steadfast devotion and leadership. Joe’s family is funny and understanding and serves as a great anchor for the pair. The rest of the Warders look up to Marcus and their devotion to him is touching.
There is a fair amount of awesomely hot chemistry – Mary Calmes writes some of the hottest hot scenes around- but the love the two share is what makes this story stand out. Joe and Marcus already love one another, though the relationship is tested, we get to see them function as an already involved couple more often than not.
I believe you could read each book as a stand alone, but reading the entire series in order makes each book resonate more.
I highly recommend this book and the series, and give it a 4.5 of 5 stars.

Audio:
Paul Morey narrates this and the last book in the series and I know and love him from some of his previous narrations. Apparently the other books are narrated by someone different and they didn’t get quite as good reviews as did Paul.
Paul did his standard excellent job. I thought it was funny that Joe (the smaller man) had the deeper voice of the two, but other than that I enjoyed his variations on the different characters and love his general cadence and timbre.
I would definitely recommend this book on Audio and enjoy this narrator a lot.

I give the narration a 4.5 of 5 stars as well, for an overall 4.5 of 5 stars.
Overall Impression:

4.5 stars – I loved it

Hard to put it down

Where does Nexus rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am a big fan of Mary Clames. This book was a great addition. I really like Joe's character.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nexus?

When they got ready to go to the club.

Have you listened to any of Andrew Schwartz’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I am not sure this narrator is actually andrew schwartz. I think it was Paul Morri and he was great!!! Much more controlled than the other narrator. And he did the voices GREAT so it was much easier to follow.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The reconciliation.

Any additional comments?

This book was well done. It gave a lot more information about the characters. I especially liked how the stories all fit into each other. Well done, nothing more I can say but well done.by the way, the review before this, I almost didn't get it because of that review but then I liked all the others in the series so I did. I'm not sure what that person's problem is, but I am glad I didn't listen to it. Besides, how about saying 'what' was wrong with the book instead of 'i hate this', etc. also, the narrator is new, and I kinda like him better than the other one. sorry...

Actually book 5 in the series

Marcus and Joseph's story. My least favorite in the series, can't understand characters that turn their backs on the love of their life - even for a short while, or even when it ends HEA

I Love Audible!

If you could sum up Nexus in three words, what would they be?

A Great Story

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nexus?

One of the most memorable moments was the club scene and fight with all the Warders and Marcus saving his brothers.

Which scene was your favorite?

I have several, but if I have to choose one I guess I would say the airport scene when Marcus first arrives and meets up with Joe and his family. The family dynamic was wonderful.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I would have to choose the scene where all his brothers arrive to see Marcus after he was gone for over a year and they express their love to him.

Any additional comments?

I love Mary Calmes writing. She has a way with words. You really know her characters and she makes you invest in them and fight for them and love them.

Great series

I have listened to this whole series and also read the books and enjoyed them immensely. The only part of the narration I do not enjoy is the music or electronic sounds at the beginning of the chapters as it is jarring. However, that is no reason to miss this excellent series. Well worth your time and a credit.

Better narrator than previous books in the series

But he's still not good. I had a hard time not zoning out and had to replay sections.

Best in the series

Probably the best in the series!

Joe and Marcus have an incredible relationship and are a very solid couple. Their chemistry and feelings for one another, even after 6 years, were tangible and the pain of their separation was felt to the bone.

I really liked how Mary Calmes wrote Joe to be an independent, blind man, not held back by his limitation or how others viewed him although at times, because of him being blind, he was too forceful, too aggressive.

Paul Morey did a really good job in narration. A much improvement from Scwartz.

What was most disappointing about Mary Calmes???s story?

Just did not like the story.

Did not like this reader.

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

THE NARRATOR....SIGH

This was my all time favorite book when I read it a few years ago, but the audiobook made me look at this book differently.
