A big tough but disabled Navy Seal gets the gentle help he doesnt know he needs from his lovely school teacher neighbor. I liked the humanism of this story, good read

I liked this one, it was sweet

I was actually surprised how moving this story in the series was compared to the first two books. I really liked it and actually brought a tear to my eye in the end. Missed the narrator from the first two books, but this one was pretty good as well. I just like when the voices of the same characters stay the same. But this narrator did a good job.

Tear Jerker - it was wonderful!

There is so much to this book. It tells the story of Frisco going from anger and brokenness to healing, and his love story with Mia. There is some excitement along the way. The narration is excellent. Very entertaining book!!

Very enjoyable!

Update 8/9/19: I read this a few years ago, but when the series showed up in Audible Escape I decided to give the audiobook a try. It's so hard to rate these older Suzanne Brockmann works. Compared to the level of writing in her Troubleshooters series as well as the production/narration quality of those audiobooks, it leaves many of these Tall Dark & Dangerous books feeling a slightly bereft. This book is also not one of my favorites of the series. Still clocks in at 3 stars.

It's a fun story, but lacking a lot of the action present in most of Brockmann's SEAL books (of either series). It's definitely fairly insta-love as the whole book takes place over just a few days.

Frisco has been recovering/rehabbing a knee injury for the last 5 years. He's just received word that despite numerous surgeries and years of PT ~ things are as good as they're going to get. Which means he will likely spend the rest of his life using a cane to walk. Also thrown at him is that his sister needs to go to rehab and he will now be the guardian of his 4 year-old niece, Tasha.

Mia is a high school teacher and Frisco's next door neighbor. She's drawn to help grumpy Frisco learn how to be the parent of a pre-schooler as well as encourage him that his life isn't over.

We also meet Thomas King, one of Mia's students who bonds with Tasha and simultaneously looks up to Frisco as a SEAL while wary of Frisco's parenting.

There is some action as Tasha's mom's ex causes havoc and a rescue takes place, but it's quite minimal in relation to the romantic aspect of the story.

I had trouble with the narrator as she didn't have a strong "male" voice. It also felt more like she was reading me the book than performing it. Joe Cat's distinct accent is also noticeably absent. I think she might be a better fit for when a book is only from the female POV. It's a decent listen as part of Audible Escape, but I'll read it in the future.

More romance than suspense

The story was actually enjoyable and I stayed interested throughout; however, there was entirely too much internal dialog. A question is asked, then 20 seconds to 2 minutes of internal dialog.... Argh! I know lots of people love it but it wears me out. I will read the next book in the series and hopefully it will contain a bit less.

Good but way too much inner dialog!
