I love the Torpedo ink series, and this has been a bit of an interesting turn from the previous books. My biggest issue with his performance is the butchering of the Russian language. As a native speaker, at times it was almost impossible to figure out what was supposed to be said.

I have been reading Feehan’s books for many years, starting with the Dark series. I have read all of the Drake Sisters and Sisters of the Heart stories, and I really like the way that their characters have been incorporated with the Torpedo Ink characters and storylines. It makes the reader feel like they are staying in touch with familiar characters, while getting to know new ones. I think the back story of the characters’ childhood in the Russian training school gives them depth of personality and motivation for their action/reactions, but I think that to reiterate the descriptions of the same experiences over and over throughout each book is unnecessary. No need to beat a dead horse. The same with the sex scenes. I enjoy a good, well written sex scene, but it starts to feel redundant after several scenes using almost the exact same wording and descriptions. I really have enjoyed the plot of each book and find myself wishing Feehan would spend more time developing the plot throughout the book and from book to book, as opposed to wasting so much time on the sex scenes. Again, not that I don’t love it when a writer incorporates a well written sex scenes in strategic places in the story line, but there comes a point it becomes gratuitous. So as far as the plot and characters are concerned, I have really enjoyed the series and can’t wait for the next release, but there are some aspects I have struggled to get through as I listened to the audiobook. I am also a fan of the narrator, Jim Frangione, from listening to him narrate J.R. Ward’s books. I am very glad he was chosen to read this series.

This book gives the most insight into the Torpedo Ink's background, schools, and talents. I love that Christine has explored all the kinks, torture, and relationship minefields in order to tell their story. Each story is done with grace, compassion and thoroughness that the reader feels compelled to join in their journey. Well done, Christine!

So far this one is my favorite. The story of justice, love, redemption and sacrifice is one that speaks to me. Be prepared for the darkness of humanity and for the hope that love can bring to those who are lost in the darkness.

Desolation Road by Christine Feehan was a different book. A synth lived in a desolate world. The things done to him as a child were awful. He was a survivor that meets Scarlet who saves him. They meld together as only a couple meant for each other. He requires different things to feel good. I respect the author for having the foresight to make this book. it couldn't have been an easy book to create. Thank you for the book/audiobook.

I loved this couple, their story was very intense, I felt like there was more insight given of the dynamics of Topedo Ink as family and a working company/MC group. I couldn’t put it down.

This 4th book written for Absinthe and Scarlet is by far the darkest book in this series. If you thought you knew everything about the abusive history of Torpedo Ink I want to tell you that you do not. This book goes into explicit details about the rapes, the whippings and the torture of innocent children who are now the grown men and women of Torpedo Ink.
We get an inside look at what happened in those horrible schools through the eyes of Absinthe. We learn a lot about the relationship between Absinthe his brothers and sisters as children. We get more info on the monstrous pedophiles who killed Absinthe’s brother and we see a painful glimpse of Savage as a teenage whip master. Their relationship as children is explored. They were just children younger than 10 years but they worked together and strengthen their gifts to kill their tormentors in order to survive.

Both Absinthe and Scarlet have violent histories that mold who they are. When they meet they are both screwed-up but screwed-up people recognize other screwed-up people and in this case they found each other and fell in love. Scarlet thought she was weird because she likes to be told what to do in the bedroom and Absinthe likes to control what happens in the bedroom. A match made in heaven? Yup, they are perfect for each other. I’m not fond of the kitty cat or pony games but when Absinthe introduces his particular kind of sexual need to Scarlet, she doesn’t hesitate to get on her hands and knees and purrrrrr. She is just what he needs.

All of the members have an ‘unusual’ sexual appetite. Even though their sexual needs seem normal to them but abnormal to everyone else they seem to find the perfect person who is willing to adjust to their needs to make them happy. I just didn’t get the kitty kat play and after reading the 1st experience, I quickly read through the other experiences without any joy.

Absinthe is broken and just like when he was a child he tries to bring peace to the turmoil in the minds of the other members. The problem…there are just too many demons for him to handle. The flashbacks leave him frozen in time reliving tortuous moments from his childhood as if it were happening again. I am happy that he found happiness with Scarlet. Scarlet keeps him grounded and helps bring him back when he flashbacks. This book is the book that opens a path for Absinthe and the rest of Torpedo Ink to begin healing.

We meet Destroyer a new member of Torpedo Ink who came from one of those schools. Destroyer is an interesting character who will possibly be linked with one of the ladies of Torpedo Ink. He is a killer, an assassin and is just as
screwed-up as the rest of them. I like him.

This has always been a difficult series for me to read and this book was the hardest to get through. Christine, as usual, does not hold back and is explicit in detailing the pain of these men and women. Their souls are damaged. They are so broken. Nonetheless they recognize love when they see it.

This book was much less caveman like than the third book in this series. I liked that Absinthe has found a woman that quiets the demons in his head, and instead of ordering her to be with him he wants to work at getting to know her. He want’s her to come to him of her own free will not because he compelled her. Scarlet works as a librarian but that is not her real job. She is just using the prosoma of a librarian to cover up her real secrets. She wants to be with Absinthe but is afraid that he will not want to be with her knowing the things she has done. I liked the story until Absinthe started talking about his childhood. I know that if a character in a book has a bad childhood, the author has to describe some of it if it is important to the story, but I think that the author went overboard in the description. I think that pedophile’s and beating children is bad enough, but I think it is a sick mind that can come up with descriptions to go along with these things. After this book, I am not sure if I will be reading any more books in this series.
I did read this book on Audible. I have heard this narrator before and like the way he reads.
