I wrote my book “Just Right: How Neutral-Driven Resolution Can Close the Gap in American Civil Justice” because traditional methods of settling common legal and business disputes cost too much time, money and aggravation. I knew there had to be a better way. Over the last decade I developed and now champion a new approach to delivering real and cost-effective justice in common limited-stakes legal disputes. It’s called NDR - neutral-driven dispute resolution. To spread the word and build the NDR method into a national movement, I started Just Resolve, an independent neutral service offering businesses and individuals a simple, truth-focused method of investigation and analysis that is driven by party-approved neutral judges, peers or experts, instead of dueling lawyers. You can find out more at www.justresolve.com. I call myself a “recovering attorney,” having spent more than 40 years in the legal and business world., An AV Preeminent peer-rated litigation and trial attorney, I have served as lead counsel in both state and federal courts, including admission before the U.S. Supreme Court, and regional managing partner at a top New York-based global law firm. I am also general counsel to my family’s farm business, a mediator, arbitrator, and settlement judge pro tem in my community’s local trial courts. I earned my JD at the University of California Davis, and an AB with Honors in Economics at Stanford University. My articles on NDR have appeared in numerous periodicals ranging from the Association of Corporate Counsel’s “Docket” to the California Lawyers Association’s “California Litigation,” and the Global Electronics Publication “U.S. Tech.” I have also spoken at various industry seminars, CEO business groups, law firms, law school classes, a rotary club, and I have recorded a continuing legal education seminar offered by a national CLE provider. I live in Morgan Hill, California, with my wife of over 40 years. When not trying to disrupt wasteful lawsuits, I enjoy playing tennis, hiking mountains, acting and singing in amateur community stage productions, volunteering for my community’s charitable foundation, and sharing time and love with my growing family that now boasts four grandchildren.
