Peter Church is based in Cape Town, South Africa. After a successful career in Information Technology, Church wrote his first novel, Dark Video. Dark Video was published in 2008 by Two Dogs, an imprint of Random-Struik in South Africa. The following year it was published by New Holland Publishers in Australia and republished in South Africa by Umuzi, an imprint of Random House. Reviewed as ‘one of the best debuts in a long time’ by Lindsay Slogrove of The Natal Mercury, Dark Video was a Sunday Times ‘Book of the Week’. In 2011 Church followed up with the ‘drink spiking’ book Bitter Pill, published by Mercury/Two Dogs an imprint of Burnett Media. Cosmopolitan magazine’s ‘Hot Read of the Month’, the plot was described by Gillian Hurst of The Drum as ‘adrenalin-laced, gritty (plot) will keep you furiously turning pages long after your bedtime.’ Bitter Pill was nominated for the 2012 Sunday Times fiction prize. In 2015 Two Dogs announced the release of Blue Cow Sky, a novella of sexual proportions. The novella heralded a break from the crime fiction genre, but received muted response in South Africa due to the controversial subject matter. In 2019 Brittle Paper announced that Church had signed a 3-book North American deal with Catalyst Press. This included his new novel, Crackerjack, the third in what would be known as the Dark Web trilogy. Crackerjack received rave reviews in the New York Journal of Books and in leading South African publications like the Sunday Times, EP Herald and Cape Times. Church appeared alongside acclaimed SA crime writer Deon Meyer at the 2019 Franschhoek Literary Festival. Peter lives in Cape Town with his wife Paula. He has three children: Christopher who now lives in New Zealand, and Megan and Ross, who reside in Cape Town.
