I wasn't always a writer, and for a long time, I did not have the self-belief to believe I could write a book. My childhood was turbulent and school was all about survival and not education. I come from a single parent family and a history of violence. This is not the best setting for creativity to bloom. As I got older I discovered martial arts and it became my family. In fact, it became my life and everything in it. Through the arts, I learned that I could achieve my goals and I was capable of far more than I had previously believed. The urge to create has always been within me and I spent many hours as a boy drawing and sketching. My first attempts at writing were crumpled up and tossed aside as I would read them back to myself and be consumed with doubt. But as I grew older the martial arts and my working life in security taught me many lessons which brought with it a maturity and self-reliance in my own ability. I have never written for anyone else. The words that appear as my fingers dance across the keys are cathartic to my soul. My secrets need to be bared and my inner voice tumbles out in a cascade of jumbled words to form and take shape on the page. I have come to enjoy writing for writing's sake, whether a blog, article or book. I get pleasure from the process. If you the reader enjoy it too, then the world is that tiny bit better for it being written, and I will take that.
