Joe Ralko has been earning his living as a writer all his life. As a reporter, he was a two-time finalist for the National Newspaper Awards (the equivalent to the Pulitzer Prize in Canada). He then achieved regional recognition as an author for his second non-fiction book, Building Our Future: A People's Architectural History of Saskatchewan. It took him more than a decade to complete The Devil's Gap, his third book, because he had to overcome numerous health issues including two battles with cancer and open heart surgery.
