Elle Thornton's background as the daughter of a career marine and her professional experience as a newspaper reporter helped her write her first two books: her debut mystery, Touch the Dead, and her first novel, The Girl Who Swam to Atlantis (YA historical fiction). The Indie Author Project named The Girl Who Swam to Atlantis the 2021 YA fiction winner in its Florida Author Project, one of fourteen regional contests. The Florida Writers Association recognized the Girl Who Swam to Atlantis with a First Place Royal Palm Literary Award for YA historical fiction. The Military Writers Society of America awarded the book a Bronze Medal. Elle Thornton’s mystery Touch the Dead, under the name E.S. Thornton, received a Silver Medal from the Military Writers Society of America in 2022 and an Honorable Mention from Readers’ Favorite. It was recognized by The Florida Writers Association with a Gold Royal Palm Literary Award and was named 2nd Runner-Up for all unpublished manuscripts in the 2019 RPLA competition. She is a former newspaper reporter in Massachusetts, Hawaii, and Kansas. She worked as a television reporter in Hong Kong.
