David P. Mitchell is an award-winning university teacher, academic, father of a young adult son and teenage daughter. Drawing on his experience as a teacher and father he is the author of the ‘9-Step EMPOWERED Boundaries for Healthy Relationships’ series of books. The 9-Step EMPOWERED Boundaries approach is based on his experience which includes two decades teaching and supporting young adults in their university studies and beyond. David was inspired to write books on setting boundaries with adult children as he saw the importance of establishing trust with young adults, while creating boundaries so they know the healthy limits. His experiences taught him that both trust and boundaries allow young adults to create their identity and are an essential part of the journey into adulthood. He believes that boundaries are essential in any relationship, and healthy boundaries help bring peace for parents and their emerging adults. Apart from ensuring parents’ peace of mind and well-being, boundaries are also intended to give adult children an opportunity to thrive by providing a structure for responsible independence. The 9- step EMPOWERED approach to setting boundaries will give them guideposts to become responsible adults. The emphasis is on “healthy” boundaries that are good for both the adult children and the parents. Healthy boundaries support a better relationship between the parents and their adult child, and their adult child taking positive steps into responsibility (with appropriate support from their parents). David has also had a love for science since he grew up on a farm as a little boy. He has spent much of his life studying, earning a PhD from RMIT University, and has loved teaching STEM subjects during his academic career. When he is not developing books on empowered boundaries, David writes science activity books. He loves to provide quality learning opportunities for children through activities, inspiring a love for Science and opening up a lifetime of discovery for young minds. David lives in beautiful Melbourne with his wife and two children where he loves to cycle in nature and paint with oils.
