D. D. Barrowes lives in a little shingled house in mid-coast Maine with her husband and two dogs. She raised six children who are, she will tell you, the best thing she ever did.

She spent thirty years in business before a layoff and recognized it for what it was — not an ending but a door held open. Writing had been a calling for a long time by then. She had simply been too busy to answer it. She walked through that door gratefully and has written full-time since.

Faith runs through her work the way it runs through her life — not as argument, not as doctrine, but as atmosphere. As the thing underneath everything else. Faith does not always come easily. It requires a humble posture, and a long willingness to not yet know.

Sometimes you have to search for your people. Sometimes you have to search for what you believe. When you find them, it is worth everything the search cost.

She writes because a story, when it lands right, can give a reader something they didn't know they needed — a breath of peace, a flicker of hope, a laugh or a sigh that comes from somewhere true. She writes to say: you are understood. You are not alone.

She also writes devotional work as Dorcas Diehl.

Her office overlooks the river. The dogs are underfoot. The next story is already arriving.
