Who is Carter Damon? Clearly, he is a science fiction writer. Of course, when we talk about a genre where we must assume, to some extent, that anything is possible, that the limit is in the imagination, and that the ability to surprise is perhaps one of its greatest values... shouldn't these also, to some extent, be the attributes of a writer in this genre? So, we would do little to help the reader if, in some way, naively, by providing information about him, we altered any of the expectations his works may have raised in the minds of his readers. For some, he could be an adventurer who hitchhikes around the world and makes a living from his online sales of writing, for others, a renowned screenwriter who has contributed to significant cinematic works but whose love affair derailed his career, and for others, perhaps, he might be one of the characters from one of his books who wishes to maintain the anonymity of his personality and not reveal the world the secrets of time travel. Why destroy any of these possible alternative realities by revealing a truth that might be more picturesque to some but duller to others? In any case, one important maxim should never be forgotten: reality always surpasses fiction.
