Alex Alexander, author of “Are We Friends Yet? How to Deepen Your Relationships and Create the Community You Need” and host of the Friendship IRL podcast, never intended to spend her days talking and writing about friendship and community. But sometimes the work finds you. Growing up in a challenging family situation, Alex had two choices: go it alone or get creative with building connections. She instinctively chose creativity, building a chosen family of friends throughout her teens and twenties without fully understanding the significance of what she was creating. When Alex entered her thirties, societal messages about adult friendship being impossible to maintain were everywhere. Unwilling to lose the support system that had become her lifeline, she began studying what made her relationships work when so many others seemed to struggle. Through her podcast, writing, and speaking, Alex is transforming how we think about friendship and community as adults. She provides the language, tools, and permission people need to build the supportive relationships they crave, proving that we have far more agency in creating our communities than society has led us to believe.
