Publisher's summary

Unapologetically f--ked up. Heartlessly cruel. Broken beyond repair.

Corvus, Rook, and Grey - the Crows.

Bred in a world of gang wars, violence, and secrets, they rule the bloody town of Thorn Valley and all the people in it...too bad for me, I’ve never been good at kissing ass or keeping quiet.

Even if their savage spirits awaken something inside of me I thought was long dead, I can’t break. I won’t.

They think they scare me, that I’ll run and hide, but the joke’s on them. The Crows aren’t the first monsters I’ve faced, and they won’t be the last. There are worse evils out there waiting to take their stab at Ava Jade Mason.

I say, let them try. I’m tired of running. Tired of holding back my darkness. Thorn Valley isn’t ready for a new bogeyman. Too bad I’m already here.

Crooked Crows is a dark enemies-to-lovers reverse harem romance, meaning the main character will have more than one love interest.

Warning: This series contains foul language, graphic depictions of gang violence, and jealous/possessive themes. Recommended for listeners aged 18 and up. Please listen responsibly.

Crooked Crows

Crooked Crows is the first book in the Boys of Briar Hall series. This book is told from multiple points of view by Ava Jade (AJ), Corvus, Rook and Gray.

Ava Jade gets thrown into a new school and meets the crows (Corvus, Rook and Gray.) As Ava is getting to know her new surroundings she realizes that these guys are into some shady stuff. She gets propositioned to follow them.

As she is following them she realizes that she may be just as dark as they are, and that they are doing things other than what she originally thought. She starts to have feelings for all three of them, and they all have feelings for her as well. There were some dark twists and turns, so this book may not be for everyone.

Something happens at the end that could change their lives forever. I loved this book and Ava as a character. She was strong willed and wouldn't let the guys walk all over her. I can't wait to see what happens next with these characters!

Killer first in series

I fell hard for this series opener. I love AJ’s whole demeanor and not immediately cowing to the Crows’ dominance. The pacing of the story was excellent as well. I can’t wait to see how the character relationships develop along with the plot.

The narration was {chef’s kiss}! Bridget and Jake nailed each character’s personality and they came across very distinctly. Their quality is always superb.

Here’s to waiting impatiently for book 2!

Good story.

The story had me listening to this completely. However, the narration got muddle for me (I listen at 1.8x) But I will be continuing this series (ebook) and looking towards seeing how it ends. 4.5/stars for story.

Dark, edgy, gripping story! Loved it! Need more!

I loved this story! This is dark, edgy and gripping. It pulled me in from beginning to end and their are still a lot of questions that I have. I am highly intrigued and the way that we were left in suspense worked for the story and the set up. I loved getting to know this characters and it is going to be really interesting to see how they all end up interacting with each other once they become more fully involved with Ava Jade. I can't wait to watch that dynamic unfold. I am also interested to learn more about her past and exactly what went down for her to view her inner darkness/monster the way she does. I love how strong she is and I am very enticed for the next book in the series! The story does leave us on a cliffhanger, (thought not immediately life threatening) and I can't wait to find out what's coming next.
The narrators did a fantastic job with the voices and the emotions for this. All the characters sounded different and I loved being able to tell them apart by the voice and actions that came through. This really brought the story to life and added to my enjoyment.

Bullyish romance

Ava Jay comes to live with her rich aunt who puts her up at a private school. She just wants to make it through the year with her head down but really when does that happen. Wouldn’t make for a good book now would it. There’s gang activity, bully like moments and a girl from the wrong side of the tracks that can kick butt. The first book is a little all over the place. They are going to get rid of her, ruin her but they are constantly protecting her. It was an okay listen. I love the narrators so it made it a lot easier to stay with it. It gets better as it goes. The end was good and ended with a cliffhanger because they always do. I will say it gets better keep going (I finished book 2 as well). I like A.J.s character and I like the intrigue that her room mate brings. Something is up with that girl. Over all not overly impressed or disappointed. The audio was good and clean. The narrators always do a fantastic job and made it worth the listen.

Saints and Rooks and Brats, Oh My!

I just finished the Kings/Queen of Quarantine series by Peckham & Valenti (those books are also read by the same narrators for audible), and —well—there are so many similarities that I found myself getting confused about storylines and characters. The weird thing is that there seem to be some common character names among these bully/reverse harem romance/prep school plots—like “Saint” and “Rook” —which makes it even more redundant (if you aren’t paying attention closely).

All of that aside: I found the book enjoyable too, and I guess I like it the genre for its taboo conventions and broken characters. And shitty father figures who must be vanquished!

AJ’s independence sometimes reads as sheer stubbornness (more than moral center), which makes her characterization feel more bratty than necessary. The brat trope is not my bag; however, AJ is a master of blades, and I kind of like that. So, where do the murder of crows go from here?

The book felt too short for an entire credit (can’t accuse Peckham & Valenti of that crime!), but I’m not too sure if I’ll spend 3 more credits on these. They are free on Kindle Unlimited, so I might just have to *read* them lol.

I did like the fight scenes and the action.

Narration Heaven 🫶🏼

I listened to this on a whim when looking for another Reverse Harem book to read! Also I needed to get Bridget and Jake on my list after hearing about them from my friends! Let me say their narration did NOT disappoint. I added more to my library from them before I even finished the book 🤣
