Murdered! And by the hands of a real loser.

Instead of waking up eternally doomed to burn in the pits of Hell, I awoke in the courtyard of Castle Dominion. It is my very own loving succubus, Lilith, who tells me that I was once a feared Castle Core. So terrifying in fact—that my walls were torn down and the life force in my Core banished to Earth. Now along with my beautiful succubus and Desire—the first of my new dark harem—I will rebuild myself.

Soon adventurers will flock to me to test their mettle against the deadly challenges I have planned for them. Some will prevail. And those who don't will either perish or serve my needs. But most of all, I plan to find out who destroyed me and banished me. And once I do, my revenge will be swift and deadly!

This is part one of the Castle Core: Dark Harem series.

I had to start over when I heard the beginning and thought I skipped too far with my thumb! Nope! It went straight for the meat as soon as it started.
Overall this story went hard on the sex, brutal on the kills, and even has world building. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to see if it continues

This is a great fun book. The MC is snarky and in charge. The world building is a little light, but the world isn't the point of this book. The characters, fun and dark themes. The Dark themes are done well and don't go to far. I loved it and will get the next installment. It's a quick listen and the time flies.

I know normally a review starts with the story, but honestly, that would be a mistake. The strongest part of this, by a wide margin, is the female narrator. She brings so much to this, that I honestly think I found a narrator I would listen to reading the phone book, and come away happy for it. The male narrator, on the other hand, did absolutely nothing for me. The tone just felt like his directions had been "go JUST a bit to far past manic." It wasnt to the point that I felt myself having to stop, but it was a bit of a drawback for me. That said, the story wastes no time getting started and keeps a rapid pace from the opening scene.

Absolutely NO easing in, which mostly works in its favor. That said, there are moments where it leans hard into shock value and brushes up against edge-lord territory. Thankfully, it usually pulls back before it tips over into something I couldn’t take seriously. Despite those issues, I stayed engaged. Engaged enough that I ended up sitting in my car during lunch just to keep listening — partly because I wanted to see where it was going, and partly because this is not something you casually play in an office. The content is extremely graphic and very focused on erotica and BDSM themes. There’s no attempt to soften that, to walk it back... at times I actually found myself wondering "how did this get past the Amazon censors?"

This is not a subtle book, and it’s not trying to be. If explicit power dynamics and graphic sexual content are a turn-off for you, this will be an immediate no. If you’re comfortable with that and want something fast-moving and unapologetic about what it is, there’s enough here to keep your attention and make you curious about what comes next.

It is refreshing with a different on this kind of book. It is a great listen but do be warned it is much darker then what you normally see around here. Will defiantly keep an eye on when the next books come out.
