Reimagining the Cookbook with Renowned Chef Marcus Samuelsson

Audible Inc. today announced the forthcoming release of Our Harlem: Seven Days of Cooking, Music, and Soul at the Red Rooster with Marcus Samuelsson. This Audible Original production reimagines the cookbook for a listening audience and offers a thoughtful and entertaining look at identity through food. Our Harlem will be available for download exclusively from Audible on June 27th, and can be preordered now at www.audible.com/ourharlem.

In this culinary adventure, the award-winning chef and restaurateur takes listeners on a music- and food-filled journey to his Harlem neighborhood and Red Rooster Harlem restaurant. The seven-hour Audible Original will be organized by days of the week, filled with the sounds of Marcus's kitchen, gospel and jazz from local bands, and conversation with friends. Each day, a different guest cooks with Marcus and he invites the listener to cook along with them, listen to the beats that flow through his restaurant, and learn about Harlem's rich history, diversity, and vibrant pulse. Our Harlem teaches about the Great Migration from the south that brought Mac & Greens to Harlem and rent parties that helped residents eke out a living and inspired Marcus when he and his co-owner Andrew Chapman opened Ginny's Supper Club in the basement of the Roosterwhere everyone from Roberta Flack to Alicia Keys has come to jam. Listeners will meet lively characters from places like the Apollo Theater, Charles' Country Pan Fried Chicken, and La Marqueta, the Spanish Harlem Market where Marcus shops.

David Blum, Editor-in-Chief of Audible Originals, commented: Introducing the cookbook as a dynamic listening experience is exactly the kind of innovative and fun project we aim to create; we know that our audience loves listening to Audible when they cook so this amazing cookbook and storytelling experience definitely hits a sweet spot! Marcus's distinct and compelling voice and genius cooking expertise, paired with the emotive sounds of Harlem, take listeners on a multisensory adventure that they will never forget.

Marcus Samuelsson commented, I'm really excited to do this project with Audible because it's not only a great way to experience our community in Harlem but also such a cool new way to experience the Red Rooster Cookbook. I really hope that this type of original audio product will ignite a whole new way of interacting with the listener, inspiring more people to enjoy cooking at home. Plus I love the opportunity to bring forward the incredible stories of Harlem from luminaries like Dapper Dan, Lana Turner, and so many other amazing people who are really in and of Harlem.
